She'd have a much stronger case if she'd stopped at crediting Christ with her success and not going on to proselytize.
The only Constitutional issue I see is whether her Free Speech rights trump the school administrators right to set the rules for commencement speeches. The Court had that issue last term and the school won.
Nope. In schools it's what the administrators deem appropriate that counts. If you don't believe me, SCOTUS ruled on this very issue once again last term. Look it up.
I'm a conservative Christian, so what she said doesn't offend me. But I think what I'd feel like if I dressed up and gathered my extended family to attend one of my kid's graduations, only to have to sit through someone of a different faith, or even a Christian of a different flavor, proselytizing me instead of giving a commencement speech. Frankly, I'd consider it rude and inappropriate and wasted effort since I'm not going to be converted.
Let me ask all the conservative Christians who think it's just fine to hijack a valedictory speech and try to evangelize the audience. How would you feel if you were there and instead of a valedictory address you and your family got a witness for Mormonism??? Don't tell me that's just fine with you - the mere mention of a Mormon candidate for President can set off a thousand post thread here. And I don't even need to speculate what would happen if it were a Muslim up there trying to convert people to Islam, do I???
