UNITED NATIONS: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday ordered an investigation into the discovery of a potentially hazardous Iraqi chemical warfare agent stored at a U.N. office in New York City.
The inquiry will examine the circumstances under which the substances were brought to U.N. headquarters from Iraq in 1996, the reasons why the discovery was only made in 2007, and safety procedures at headquarters and in the field, said a statement from Ban's spokesperson.
"The secretary-general takes very seriously the late discovery ... of potentially hazardous material" at the office of U.N. weapons inspectors, the statement said. "He has given immediate instructions to launch an internal investigation drawing on external expertise in close cooperation with the U.S. and New York City authorities."
The U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission, the weapons inspection agency known as UNMOVIC, strongly supported the investigation.

I was about to say - these aren’t the most thorough of people - I’m not surprised. It’s amazing what the UN can decide to overlook and ignore.
Took them 11 years to find chemicals inside the U.N. building. Gives one pause about what weapons inspectors report back from hostile nations. Maybe inspectors should be sent to the U.N. to ensure there aren’t any more vials in the filing cabinets.
Rather than document this amusing incident, they should evacuate the building until it has been inspected, every desk and file cabinet, for any dangerous material be it chemical or propaganda.
I find this interesting. Previous articles went to great pains to say that these chemicals were deposited there prior to 1991.

It just sat there all these years. And these morons are just discovering it. What a bunch of loons, sucking down our tax dollars to pad their lifestyle is all they’re doing, that, and laughing at us for being suckers for doing it.
That's the kicker. And we're(not me)supposed to trust their findings on iran and other nations going for the gold when it comes to nukes.
They should incinerate the building-it’s the only way to be sure. :)

That would do severe ecological damage to the environment of Manhattan. Best just knock it down and bury it. Return the property to the owner.
Oh yes, someone I would trust with my country's safety. Look how well he's protecting iran. He only needs to stall action for a couple more years and they'll be home free.
Plow it under, salt the earth and build a huge gun store on the property.
