Too bad we Christians don't have the same fervor about Christ. Muslims, well, at least those in power, stand up to blasphemy.

The disgusting images of Jesus, namely, Christ on the the Cross, sitting in a jar of urine, are PAID for by taxpayers and called "art." We Christians say and do nothing and the blasphemy continues.
If Jesus' head were to be put on to the body of a dog, it would pass the "art" test here, or be labeled political humor or simply "freedom of expression" in a newsrag op ed page and those who objected, if any, would be excoriated. The blasphemy gets steadily worse and Christian reaction grows weaker.
I wonder why we wonder how Muslims can get suicide bombers to give up their lives for their faith. They seem more serious about their faith than we Western Christians.

Maybe I'm wrong here. I could be. I apologize if I offend with my remarks.
I lived in Saudi Arabia for five years and saw their faith and fervor. It made me wish that we Christians still had some of it. We have it, to some extent, at the grass roots level but our leaders, political, social, artistic and educational, have NONE. But, then we elect them "leaders" so what does that say about US?

Careful what you ask for. "Christian fervor" is what kept Europe and England in the grip of some very ghastly wars for close to 250 years.

The inclusion of two provocative entries in Australia’s most prestigious religious art competition has again highlighted the issue of distasteful art and Christians’ reaction to it. Critics ranging from Prime Minister John Howard to church leaders have questioned the appropriateness of the two exhibits — one depicting the Virgin Mary wearing an Islamic burqa, and another, a holographic image of al-Qaeda terror chief Osama bin Laden morphing into an image of Jesus Christ. The works, submitted for a 55-year-old annual award called the Blake prize, are on display at a taxpayer-funded gallery in Sydney. Howard has called them “gratuitously offensive to the religious beliefs of many Australians.” The chairman of the Blake prize, the Rev. Rod Pattenden, said in a statement it seemed that “a real nerve” had been hit.

I think the difference isn’t that Muslims are more “faithful”.

One difference is that Christ suffered the most appalling torture and death for us:- dipping His image in urine is just a faint, demon-prompted echo of Calvary. Hell and Damnation didn’t stop Christ - some wee-wee in a jar just isn’t important.

Te other difference is that Islam is a made-up cult which revolves around the confused and chronologically abrogated ravings of a single tribal warlord. The man at the centre of such a cult must be kept ‘untouchable’ with the incessant use of violence and mental conditioning. Otherwise the entire memetic edifice will collapse.

WOW!

In all my ten years here at Free Republic, I've rarely if every read a post that alarmed, amazed, and frankly repulsed me as much as this one.

Too bad we Christians don't have the same fervor about Christ. Muslims, well, at least those in power, stand up to blasphemy.

...

Maybe I'm wrong here. I could be. I apologize if I offend with my remarks.

I find nothing to admire about muslims; the fervent ones are nothing more nor less than the better-brainwashed among a billion followers of a fourteenth-century warrior death cult. So what you are saying, in effect is, "I wish more Christians were more like those better-brainwashed, violent muslims that riot at the drop of a cartoon." You are wrong --- very wrong. I urge you to re-think your position.

I hope that your post was just the result of frustration rather than your true beliefs.

I lived in Saudi Arabia for five years and saw their faith and fervor. It made me wish that we Christians still had some of it.

So what you are saying here is, "I wish that the USA could be more like Saudi Arabia?

In the words of Bill the Cat, "AACCCCKKK! TTTHHHPPPPT!"

We have it, to some extent, at the grass roots level but our leaders, political, social, artistic and educational, have NONE. But, then we elect them "leaders" so what does that say about US?

Well, what it says is two-fold; first, that our Founders, in their wisdom, saw the dangers and downside of the intermingling of church and state, and secondly, that that is how the American electorate wants it.

I'm not a Christian, but I am about 99% or better in agreement with the position of most Christians here on Free Republic so reading this post was an extremely unpleasant shock.

Christian leaders to object and are mocked and vilified by the left and MSM as a bunch of knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, intolerant, unsophisticated rednecks who want to take us back to the Dark Ages and don’t understand or appreciate “art”.

I do agree with the rest. If Christians were to pray 5 times a day and fast regularly, I think we would see a big change in our world.

I really don't think that they are giving up their lives as much for faith as they are because their lives are so boring, and death seems better than to go on living in their empty, meaningless lives.

Could you live a life that had NO TV, NO radio, NO dating, NO jobs, NO place to go, NO cars, NOTHING to do but stand on the street corners in 130 degree heat and scream about everything that everyone else does that angers them. IF I had to live that kind of life, I'd kill myself too. LOL!
