Israel sets F-35 Joint Strike Fighter specifications

The Israeli air force has completed a review of its design requirements for a national variant of Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, with Tel Aviv expecting to make a decision to buy up to 100 of the US aircraft under a multi-year procurement.
Details of the air force's unique requirements remain classified, but are known to include a locally built electronic-warfare suite and a new internally carried bomb to be developed by Israel Military Industries.
The general staff of the Israeli defence forces will soon decide how many F-35s will be purchased and establish a preferred delivery schedule. "We want this aircraft as soon as possible," says a senior air force source.
Other sources say Israel plans to sign a letter of agreement in 2009, with deliveries to start in late 2013 or 2014. Its initial order is expected to be for 25 aircraft, plus 25 options. However, with the Israeli-configured aircraft likely to have a higher price tag, the issue will be evaluated before a production contract is signed in 2010.

...with Israeli-built electronics. That’s very interesting. The UK was demanding plans for US electronics with F-35s (such plans not to be delivered to countries outside the USA) instead of having repairs on those modules done by US personnel.

AS nice as the F35 will be, I would rather see Israel with a couple of hundred F22’s.
The 35 and 22 are different roles. I think the F-35 purchase is to replace the first round of F-16s that will probably be ready to retire by the time the first F-35 roles off the line. I think Israel is interested in replacing their F-15 fleet with the F-22 if the 22 is offered outside the US.
Never mind the F22’s and F35’s I would like to give them the moth-balled F117a’s and B1’s and let them do their magic to them!

Yes, Jerusalem has been Israel’s capital since 1949, the seat of government, and the physical location where these decisions are made. Use of Tel Aviv in the press is common, a means to deligitimize the sovereignty of the State of Israel.

There will be an F-35. It will be delivered late, it will have lots of early teething pains, but eventually it will be a semi-decent aircraft.
Some of the most advanced electronics in the world are engineered and built in Israel. They probably have more confidence in their own electronic systems for the planes than they have in ours. I'm not saying that theirs are better than ours, just that they may think so.
That plus the fact that there may be an economic factor involved. Israel may be able to equip their planes with comparable electronics at a lower price, and with money that stays in Israel instead of going to the US.
I read somewhere recently that Egypt is already asking about buying an F-22 fleet.
Egypt is a very poor Islamic nation, it would have to get money for the planes from either the US or one or more of the oil rich Islamic states. Knowing how abysmally stupid and favorably biased our state department is concerning Islamic nations and their relations with the US, I imagine we will end up virtually giving them the advanced planes they want to use against our ally Israel.
Fortunately for Israel, one F-22 piloted by an Israeli pilot would probably be equal to a 1/2 dozen od the same planes flown by Egyptian pilots.

US laws says ours is supposed to be moved to Jerusalem. The President has put it off every 6 months.
I think the US is the only nation that recognizes Jerusalem as the capital today.
