I have studied a sample of 200,000 elliptical galaxies with redshifts <0.20 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to investigate whether they tend to have their ellipticities aligned along a particular axis. The data show a 13 standard deviation signal for such an alignment. The axis is close to the spiral spin axis found previously and to that of the quadrupole and octopole moments in the WMAP microwave sky survey

Where are they pointing? They are pointing towards that large "hole" in the universe discovered a few weeks ago. Methinks God has something to do with it...
Just a guess.

I read a book a few years ago that talked about a few concepts of superstrings’ interactions with matter (strings). This sort of thing reminds me of a few basic models. This is not necessarily a function of the nature of space if it can attributed to an external force like a brane. I don’t really buy a lot of the general concepts that constitute string theory, m-theory, etc. This just reminds me of a few general ideas and I could see some people very excited about this. It’s at least very odd.
