Audio of Craig arrest reveals new details (Stupid Craig pleads guilty to BS charges)

WASHINGTON - Sen. Larry Craig denied soliciting an undercover police officer shortly after being arrested in a bathroom at a Minneapolis airport, an audio recording of the arrest revealed.

Craig said on the June 11 recording, released Thursday by the Minneapolis Police Department, that he may have touched Investigative Sgt. Dave Karsnia's foot with his foot while they were in bathroom stalls.

"You said our feet bumped. I believe they did," Craig said, adding that he was scooting over. "The next thing I knew, under the bathroom divider comes a card that says 'Police.'"

The Republican senator from Idaho also said he placed his hand underneath the stall to pick up a paper, not to solicit the officer.

'I'm not gay," Craig said. "I don't seek activity in bathrooms."

Karsnia said that he had cited several people for similar behavior in the past and that he was disappointed in the senator.

"You are sitting here lying to a police officer," Karsnia responded. "People vote for you. Unbelievable."

A first year lawyer could have cleared him.

No kidding. Others have pointed out that Craig has access to the "best lawyers on the planet" and they would have had these charges dismissed in no time. Someone with money and power shouldn't plead guilty to a "crime they did not commit!"

Nobody should plead guilty to a crime they didn’t commit - because people should be equal under the law. Caste systems are for India.

I do not know all the details, I have been rather busy of late, but I turned on Fox and it was hard to watch and listen to this video. How embarrassing.

It sounds like he was just agreeing to get out of there.

He probably would have rather taken the lesser charge then going to trial. The accusation is worth more than a conviction in the court of public opinion.

It would be interesting if this cop was bought off.

OK, I’ve heard a lot of talking heads talking about ‘signals’.. but the basic charge is that he bumped someone’s foot and the cop took that as solicitation?

Talk about much ado about nothing.. I suppose he plead guilty thinking it would go away versus fighting it and it being all over the press...

I am of the belief, this officer jumped the gun and from what i have read about past issues he has been involved in, he would probably be better served in another line of work. Coming from a law enforcement family myself, this officer should be scrutinized as much as we scrutinize Senator Craig.

One of the problems we have today is not standing up for our convictions.

I got a ticket I didn’t deserve, I fought it and lost. Do you know what the judge did, she plead me guilty in abeyance.

I did not agree to that, so even though the fine was thrown out, I fought the guilty plea and paid the fine.

If you know you aren’t guilty, why not fight, why rollover and take it?

Please, don’t answer that.

The cop told him he wasn’t going to tell the news media. He might of thought he could pay the fine just like a parking ticket and nobody would know...Plus he knew the media had rumors of him...........

The audio is troubling. Although he said he wasn't doing anything wrong, he didn't fight very hard to defend his reputation. He's old enough and smart enough to know that agreeing to a probation and a fine, is in and of itself an admition of guilt.

He didn't even WANT a lawyer, FGS.

This was an awful, awful audiotape. Any modicum of respect has been shattered.

Plus, according to Major Garrett's report, Craig is under unsupervised probation for a year as part of his plea. And, he never advised anyone in the Senate about this.

He’s done. He needs to resign.

The left hand under the stall when it was opposite the officer even stumped the cop after he thought about it and it would have been enough to clear him. The cop even asked do you wear your wedding ring on the right hand ever?

The audio helps and hurts him. He doesn’t admit to anything, but the idea that he his hand gesture could be explained as picking up a piece of paper doesn’t jive.

Sorry, guilty as charged.
