Toys "R" Us recalls China-made wooden art sets (excessive levels of lead!)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Toys "R" Us Inc is recalling 27,000 wooden coloring cases that were made in China and sold under its Imaginarium brand because lead was found in the printed ink on the art set's outer packaging and in some watercolor paints.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall on Thursday, said the 213-piece coloring set includes crayons, pastels, colored pencils and water colors that were packaged in a light tan wooden carrying case.

The printed ink on the outer packaging of the case contains lead, and some of the black watercolor paint contains excessive levels of lead, the agency said.

The cases were sold at the toy retailer's stores and on its Web site from October 2006 through August 2007 for about $20. Of the 27,000 cases that were recalled, Toys "R" Us said 8,300 were sold to customers during the recall period.

It marks the latest in a string of recalls of Chinese-made products due to lead paint, including Mattel Inc's recent recall of Pixar Sarge die-cast toy cars, and Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer toys.

Too bad the globalists didn't know something like this could happen. Or did they? No matter, they sold us down the river to fatten their own bank accounts!

“Too bad the globalists didn’t know something like this could happen. Or did they? No matter, they sold us down the river to fatten their own bank accounts!”

I’ve noticed a shift. For a long time the globalists would tell us American made products are just as dangerous. Now that the evidence seems to point that out as a lie, the spin is now that this is reactionary. Lead isn’t all that bad, people are over-reacting. We lived with lead in the old days, etc.

The unions are behind this!!!!

If it weren’t for how sad this is, I’d find it entertaining to watch the globalists spin.

I just found out that my twin grandsons have these. Their Mom is taking them back to ToysR’Us. Arrgh.

What’s really going to be fun is when the Chinese nationalize the factories that corporations have built over there. Then you’ll hear these “US” corporations complain to the government how they need help. But when Americans need jobs... these corporations are global, NOT American, and see no distinction between American and Chinese workers, (other than the obvious, Chinese are cheaper and easier to abuse).

Unfortunately, people have died because of globalism. Who knows if anyone in America has died because of this stuff. They have in other parts of the world, but I think our government would cover it up if they knew someone died.

What really makes me mad is that this junk is stuff that children are playing with. There have been recalls of clothing, and children are wearing it. The globalists in our government should be hanged as traitors!

American kids survived with lead paint on all their toys for dozens and dozens of years. To be harmed by this toy, a kid would have to eat the box. No, make that lots and lots of boxes.

I mean, let’s keep things in perspective.

jeez, safer to let my kids play with Norinco ammo, it’s copper washed steel, with less lead than any toy nowadays...

Oh no. I hope they haven't had them for a long time. She should DEMAND her money back. Tell her to take pictures before she returns it. Just in case!

They got them for Christmas last year. Pictures is a good idea. I’ll tell her.

Strangest letter I ever got in 35 years of business was a cease and desist from Toys R Us attorneys because my website ended with “rus.”

“American kids survived with lead paint on all their toys for dozens and dozens of years. “

And you’re an authority on the toxicity of lead?
People in the past have consumed and used lots of things they no longer use. There is speculation that part of the fall of Rome is due to the lead used in their plumbing causing mental problems. Oh, but that’s probably made up by the unions in an attempt to make those upstanding manufacturers who use lead look bad.

They used to x-ray kids feet to make sure their shoes fit properly. Once they found out x-rays could cause problems, they stopped doing that. But they did it for a few years and not that many people died, so why stop, right?

Well, I sure change my tune when we start up with lead plumbing and foot x-rays again. And I’m sure it’s a good idea to keep lead out of paint wherever possible. At the same time, I’m not going to join in this latest round of anti-Chinese hysteria.

Unfortunately most of the GOP is too stupid to get out front on this stuff. The democrats are going to own this issue even though they’ve helped create it.

I thought lead could only hurt you if you ingested it. Who is going to eat the labels or drink the paint for pete’s sakes???

Children are known to put lots of things in their mouth, even things they shouldn’t. They are also notorious for chewing on things. These are toys.

So you are an expert in lead toxicity and the lead that we stopped using in kids toys is now safe to use again?

Would kids who are old enough to use these paints unsupervised be likely to put them in their mouths, much less chew on the box? I still think this is overreaction here.

That's OK. The titles were different so when I searched, I didn't find it. Mine came from Reuters and the other one from CNNMoney.com, and they are slightly different. :o)
