Consider the bathroom stall, that utilitarian public enclosure of cold steel and drab hue.
It can be a world of untold secrets, codes and signals as invitations to partake. Like foot-tapping: Who knew?
Let us peer in, shall we? Let us peer into the stall as intently as Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) allegedly did in a bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in June, when his searching blue eyes were visible to an undercover cop, who would later title his police report on Craig's arrest "Lewd Conduct" and write that police had made "numerous arrests regarding sexual activity in the public restroom."
Foot-tapping, the odd Morse code of anonymous bathroom sex, is "a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct," wrote airport police Sgt. Dave Karsnia. But there are many more ways to communicate desire in this sexual subculture, say legal and behavioral experts as well as law enforcement officials. Consider eye contact and the three-second rule. The lingering at the urinal. And any bathroom will do, be it in an airport, a department store, a mall or a highway rest stop.
While the Craig case has created another political scandal, with two Republican senators yesterday calling for his resignation, it has also pulled back the curtain on a sexual practice that takes place furtively, in the most public of places, and on the police stings designed to rout it.
Internet message boards on "cruising" are constantly abuzz with come-ons written by those seeking partners for anonymous bathroom sex. The boards also bristle with warnings about locations where law enforcement is cracking down.

Does anyone really care about this crap.....literally? Get rid of the Senator and get on with the peoples business.
Huh. Well, this is a topic that must be right down the liberal Washington Post’s alley.

He should just switch parties and all will be made well.
Having said that, while I do have an active libido, I can think of no less appealing place to have any kind of sex than a public restroom.
The Washington Post already knows all about this.
They endorse homosexuality.
An entire segment of society characterized by anonymous liasons in the crapper of all places, bath houses, and public parklands. I guess the delicate scent of yesterday’s chili is some kind of aphrodesiac to these toe-tapping mutts. Yeah, they’re born that way. Tolerance is demanded.
Oh thanks! I had to look up teabagging. Never heard that one before. I'm sure all the 6th Graders here in Maryland have probably heard it in their "Tolerance" Class. Sheesh.
Oh no! First they ruin the perfectly good word “gay” and now “tea bag”? Do I even want to know what that means?
I’m a tea drinker, too. Will I be shocked if I do an internet search for tea? Sheesh. What a depraved world we live in!
Okay, let me be the first to say it - what if you DIDN’T KNOW that “foot tapping” was a signal for sex? I mean, I’m a woman, and I had no clue, but I tap my feet all the time. Can a person be arrested just for tapping their feet? And I look people in the eyes just to be friendly... do I have to stop doing that too?
What the **** kind of world is this, where everything has become a chance to get arrested or get hit on? It’s kind of scary - I’ve got to go tell my nine-year-old boy never to look someone in the eyes or tap his feet, because he’ll either get arrested, molested, or both.
Bingo, you got that right.
So, is this a news piece, or an instruction sheet?
“Knock three times (tap-tap) on the ceiling if you want me...tap on the pipe (clang-clang) if the answer is nooo—ohhh..”
When misapplied throughout history - which has happened many, many times - the results have been catastrophic.
There are things that cannot and should not be "tolerated" - it's just that simple.
“teabagging”
Actually from a John Waters movie.
\B-more
I’m with you. Although his behavior was odd and PROBABLY related to illicit sexual activity - I don’t get what he did the was illegal or should be illegal.
