MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Elvira Arellano, the recently deported illegal migrant and activist who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year, has asked Mexico's president to appoint her "peace and justice" ambassador so she can return to the United States.

"I'm not a terrorist and the United States can't continue treating undocumented migrants as terrorists," Arellano said after meeting with President Felipe Calderon.

Bush should have no problem with this arrangement.

How long has it been since she was in the news?

almost as long as ..

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan speaks Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at an anti-war rally in Kennebunkport, Maine. Even though President Bush wasn't in town, hundreds of anti-war protesters including Sheehan marched by the Bush family compound on a scorching, muggy day. (AP Photo/Joel Page)

The illegal Cindy Sheehan. When will this woman’s 15 minutes be up? She is a con artist (identity theft) who violated our immigration law and flaunted her lawbreaking.

I know Bush would`t mind but being a convicted felon I would hope that even with this scam she would be unable to reenter.

Doesn’t her reentering the U.S. after being deported the first time make her a felon?

I’d also like to see some sort of charges filed against officials of the church who abetted her lawbreaking. Helping someone commit a crime and resist arrest is something that should be punished.

Yes. She was also using a false SS#- that would be a second felony.

"I'm not a terrorist and the United States can't continue treating undocumented migrants as terrorists,"

But you are a felon, and we treated you as a felon.

Technically one would sure like to think so, but.. her felony was scored back in 2002 for working under a false Social Security number

Elvira, go home
http://faustasblog.com/2007/08/elvira-go-home.html
Elvira Arellano was arrested in Los Angeles and was deported to Tijuana, Mexico. Arellano’s been illegally in the USA on and off since 1997, and in 2002 was convicted of working under a false Social Security number - a felony. Whether she made up a Social Security number out of thin air, or she committed identity theft is unclear; Arellano committed a felony all the same. She then defied a court order by hiding at the Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago rather than surrender to authorities.

Everybody knows that the illegals are going to “boycott” a community in Virginia because of laws passed there, right? Well, let’s boycott Mexican good and services! It’s a two-way street, isn’t it?

She could theoretically re-enter, but all we’d have to to do get rid of her is get her declared persona non grata.

Normally, I’d agree with you, but a church’s right to give sanctuary is long established in common law.

Wrong. The right of asylum was abolished in England in 1623. It has never existed here in the colonies.

It’s just a matter of pussy Federal law-enforcement afraid of raising the ire of people who already hate them anyway.

“Political asylum should not be mistaken with modern refugee law, which rather deals with massive influx of population,”

I am not so sure I can agree with ya friend. Seems to me that while she is obviously an individual, she is more associated with the influx of illegals than from persecution by a govt or the likes.

Church protection tho, as you mentioned, has historically been undertaken for certain situations.
