Can’t your wife use a pump and take the milk with her in a bottle?
This is so strange. Thirty years ago I breastfed in probably all the major chains, and never had a problem.
Of course, I never exposed myself, always had a blanket, sat in the back, didn’t make anything of it.
Now all this controversy just amazes me.
FWIW, my children hated bottles, never took anything from a bottle. Seriously, not a joke. Some kids just don’t like the artificial nipples.
Not all babies can go from breast to bottle with ease; it can be confusing.
If you’re applying this to all women, please bear in mind that expressing and bottlefeeding breast milk is against most doctors’ advice for the first month to six weeks, as breastfeeding is still being ‘established’ and doing so can interfere with the milk supply and the baby’s ability to suckle.
Secondly, as others have pointed out, not all children will be able to feed from a bottle at all. Some either reject the idea outright, or have serious problems combining breast- and bottlefeeding due to the difference in sucking technique required between real and artificial nipples.
Added to that, not all women can easily use a breast pump for various reasons.
So...no, perhaps she can’t ‘use a pump and take the milk with her in a bottle’. And even if she could, it wouldn’t be as fresh, convenient, easy to ensure sterility of, or properly temperature-controlled as feeding directly from the breast.
