Mayor Naugle's Gay Views Jeopardize Tourism Seat

CBS4) FORT LAUDERDALE Broward County commissioners have scheduled a discussion on Tuesday whether to remove Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle from the Tourist Development Council, according to CBS4 news partners The Miami Herald. It attributes this move to the mayor's comments against the gay community.

''Being off the board won't silence me, it may give me a bigger voice,'' Naugle told the newspaper yesterday.

If he is removed, Naugle said he won't have to abide by Florida's public records laws and could speak to individual members of the tourist board at any time.

Commissioner Stacy Ritter planned on calling a vote today. But there is word she may want to delay it until Sept. 11 so that Broward's tourism director Nicki Grossman can attend the meeting to provide testimony about why Naugle should be removed.

Commissioners may remove any member of the board for cause or if the member no longer meets the qualifications. County Commissioner John Rodstrom said he'll question whether the board can document that Naugle has damaged tourism.

Removing Naugle from the council would send a statement that county commissioners disagree with the comments made by Naugle. But it won't cut off his ability to publicize his views what he says is a problem of gay sex in public places.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; News/Current Events; US: Florida
KEYWORDS: bias; gays; govwatch; homosexualagenda; naugle; tourism
The broadcast media in Miami is all over this story; the media is extremely friendly to the gay activists' position on this story, and pretty demeaning to Naugle.

Doesn't matter: Jim Naugle, a principled and intelligent Democrat, is standing his ground.

Stacy Ritter. That name rang a bell...

Commissioner Stacy Ritter planned on calling a vote today.

IIRC, Ritter is the idiot who wanted to take away the Emergency Broadcast rights to the radio station that carries Rush Limbaugh...

Yes, the Miami media is all over this, repeating non-stop about how the Mayor is “anti gay.”

All the mayor said was that installing a new type of restroom in public parks and beaches would result in less public bathroom sex.

That can only be construed as being “anti gay” if you think that having sex in a public restroom is a civil right.

Ritter appears to have mental issues that make him incompetent to deal with public safety.

Mayor says having sex with strangers in public restrooms is a bad thing and should be discouraged by acquiring stalls that make it very difficult.

The horror, the horror.
Guy obviously is a mad homophobe.
In Idaho they make those types senators.

so apparently the tourist board is about promoting high risk sex in a family friendly tourist destination...

Naugles moves are HELPING tourism by clearing out the homosexuals from the public restrooms. They are free to keep to their private restrooms all they like.

Does anybody in Lauderdale (besides the unabashed homosexuals) really want more gay sex in their public restrooms?

“Am I the only one who laughed at title of story?”

I immediately scanned the comments to see if anyone else has my warped sense of humor. This has got to be intentional!

People (most) have collectively gone insane (the mayor being an exception..

That the city would even cow-tow toward sodomists is plain insane and outrageous: The mayor wants to make it safe for families to visit his city and he is lambasted by the media and those in public office beside him@! Go figure; America is teh doomed if this continues..

Sen. Craig - come on down!

Sheesh - the same people who are outing Craig by exposing his airport flirtation are the ones here in Fort Lauderdale who consider a sensible public health and safety stand by Naugle to be beyond the pale. The world has been inverted.

No, but there the double standards are getting out of hand.
