U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people
By Laura MacInnis 28 minutes ago
The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.
Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.

LOL!!! That sounds like the opening line out of the movie LORD OF WAR!! It is a great movie btw.
That's where I got it from.
My wee one thinks it's strange if Daddy or Mommy go out of the house without a handgun. He is 5 yrs old and can hold a 5 inch group at 10 yards with my Ruger Bearcat 22 revolver. He can disassemble, clean and reassemble it too.
What’s wrong with the other 10%?
I was thinking the same thing, gonna have to change my xmas shopping list now.
sweet,I used to have a 226
Well the 'Swiss Miss' has seen much better days
I personally am of two minds on gun ownership, but I would desperately like to see facts on gun ownership and crime. Obvioulsy, criminals will always have guns (we need look only at the recent numbers that come out of England), but does it really pay off for maintaining and/or lowering crime? I don’t know...can someone point me in a direction where I can take a look at some unbiased stats?
So I guess I should go out and get mine...
In Germany, you can own guns, but they have to be stored at a secured facility (i.e., not your house). If you leave base with a M-16, you have to have two people with the weapon. Civilians in Germany own guns to shoot at ranges, and not to protect themselves. Unless they illegally have a weapon at home.
Yes, as soon as possible, buy some ammo, practice and have FUN!
Well I would but yesterday in the Connecticut Post they said there was an AMMO Shortage !
I think I am more impressed with the Freeper who said he didnt own a gun but joined the NRA. Im sorry I have forgotten his handle.
I also remember the old saying, Beware the man who only owns one gun. He probably knows how to use it.
And how does this relate to the link I posted in 201?
Why not "tax" your liberal neighbors?
Go "borrow" something from them, sell it at your garage sale, and buy a gun in their honor.
Darn, just called a dealer to buy a high end sigarms p226 x-five. He said all high end guns are hard to come by right now. Expecting a call back to see how long till I can get one.
I didn’t know they were that scarce.
Designer is jealous.
Congrats to you and yours.
Great idea! Designer will look into this as well. Thanks.
Only 90 guns for every 100 citizens !!! Alright you bunch of slackers 8*) you all know perfectly well that it should be 100 guns for every 100 citizens as a minimum .
