U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people
By Laura MacInnis 28 minutes ago
The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.
About 4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States, it said.
"There is roughly one firearm for every seven people worldwide. Without the United States, though, this drops to about one firearm per 10 people," it said.
India had the world's second-largest civilian gun arsenal, with an estimated 46 million firearms outside law enforcement and the military, though this represented just four guns per 100 people there. China, ranked third with 40 million privately held guns, had 3 firearms per 100 people.
Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.
On a per-capita basis, Yemen had the second most heavily armed citizenry behind the United States, with 61 guns per 100 people, followed by Finland with 56, Switzerland with 46, Iraq with 39 and Serbia with 38.

8 out of the remaining 10 are lying about it....(chuckle)
I confess. I have more than I can hold and fire with my own two hands.
You don't have enough!!
I had to think about it for a while. Do I pass?
Did they factor in the unknown thousands of ammo bunkers with unknown millions of small arms, crew-served weapons, explosives, etc? When you figure in Saddam's "stash", it probably comes out to more than one weapon per person. Not that it did the average Iraqi any good.
I am way past that mark, and my dad is still living. I actually have a goose gun and a 12 gage for other birds, several pistols and big game rifles.
...and buy American.
beautiful
This is really sad. I now realize that there are Americans out there who don’t own a gun. And I have so many.
You don't have enough!!
OMG. I was just trying to count all of ours and couldn't do it. I'd have to have a visual to be sure.
"It is impossible to invade the mainland of The United States, there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."
Japanese Admiral Yamamoto (mastermind of the attack on Pearl Harbor)
I was just thinking that this is as it should be ~ and with the rest of the world generally disarmed too.
not nearly enough. Let's see...1 rifle, one shot gun plus backups for each. One hand gun for carry in warm weather. One for cold. One for the woods. One for HD to get to shotgun. Back ups for each of those. That's a start.
I'm doing my best to fulfill my part of the obligation. All I need is some more moola that isn't spoken for for trivial items like food, medicine, housing, electricity, clothes, gas, taxes, etc, and I can singlehandedly raise the percentage to the next level.
For some strange reason my wife thinks 8.5 guns for each member of the household is enough, I think it's just a good start.
As long as we are confessing...
I confess to buying guns because I had ammo with nothing to shoot it with.
I confess to buying guns because it was there.
I confess to buying guns for no reason at all. ;)
Only way to keep those bad boys busy is to put them to cleaning guns.
Plus, back before WWII the Finns had to fight a war against Russia.
They won ~ but to make it stick they had to agree to expel the quarter-million German troops then billeted in Finland.
They against went to war, beat the Germany army, and sent them packing to Norway.
Not likely they have any intention of ever being disarmed.
The really SAD statistic is how many gun owners belong to the NRA GOA etc
The dead beats that don’t are allowing the ones that do to carry the load for them
And I don’t want to hear they can’t afford it
Yes the Finns drink a bit. They also drive cars and DUI is severely punished. Shooting under the influence is not socially acceptable. Many shoot, many drink, but not at the same time.
I agree, full auto should be legal here.
“My problem with the NRA is that joining it in essence places you on a registry list if their data is ever stolen or confiscated by gun grabbers.”
What’s the situation with your personal details required when purchasing firearms then - a form called 4473 or something? Aren’t details already held by the state?
