A popular comic strip that poked fun at the Rev. Jerry Falwell without incident one week ago was deemed too controversial to run over the weekend because this time it took a humorous swipe at Muslim fundamentalists.
The Washington Post and several other newspapers around the country did not run Sunday's installment of Berkeley Breathed's "Opus," in which the spiritual fad-seeking character Lola Granola appears in a headscarf and explains to her boyfriend, Steve, why she wants to become a radical Islamicist.
The installment did not appear in the Post's print version, but it ran on WashingtonPost.com and Salon.com. The same will hold true for the upcoming Sept. 2 strip, which is a continuation of the plotline.
The Washington Post Writers Group syndicates "Opus," and the Post is the cartoon's home newspaper. The syndicate sent out an alert about the two strips in question, according to Post Writers Group comics editor Amy Lago.
Sources told FOXNews.com that the strips were shown to Muslim staffers at The Washington Post to gauge their reaction, and they responded "emotionally" to the depiction of a woman dressed in traditional Muslim garb and espousing conservative Islamic views.

I'm series.
I saw the toon in my Sunday paper.
One question, why is it Fatima Struggle and not Fatima Jihad.
Jihad means struggle
It seems they even had to make that cartoon PC. Shameful. Time to call a spade a spade.
To me the real news is that the WaPo has enabled Muslim censors to ensure that no “inappropriate” content gets published.
Why not just hire Muslim fundamentalists to edit the entire paper?
Why is it the ones most vocal about the First Amendment are also the ones most eager to surrender it?
Oh right, Russ Feingold’s already on that.
When a publisher caves in on his responsibility to defend the freedom of the press because he fears, rightly or wrongly, that some of the targets of his news might burn him out, then the terrorists and haters of freedom of have won.
Time for a forced bankruptcy to put those assets into the hands of responsible and fearless owners.
I wonder if they would have gotten emotional responses from Christians if they had shown the previous week’s strip around to Christians on the staff?
Well, I am sure they would have shown the Jerry Falwell cartoon to a panel of their Christian staffers, if they had any.
Burka burka burka allah jihad.
I don’t recall the Washington Post ever showing a proposed cartoon mocking Christianity to staffers to find if they thought it offensive...
for Berkeley Breathed to be mocking anything but Republicans is a major step forward.
Don't you think that's a little extreme?
We’re the biggest, baddest and strongest kid in the entire schoolyard and we are being bullied by a bunch of pint-sized thugs who we could pound into a pile of unrecognizeable goo at our whim. And all in the name of political correctness. Disgusting.
MSM censorship only helps online information distribution grow. They’re shooting themselves in the foot.
No, Jihad mean holy war in Allah’s cause.
