U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo is calling for the Glenwood Springs Police Department and Garfield County Sheriff's Office to get tougher on immigration.
The outspoken immigration hawk lowered the boom on the downvalley police agencies last week upon learning 7-Eleven shooting suspect Ricardo Ramirez had at least two previous contacts with police that failed to put him in custody. Records show that Ramirez, an illegal immigrant, cursed at police and was uncooperative in 2006 when he was the passenger in a Glenwood Springs drunken driving case that occurred two years after he had been deported to Mexico and illegally returned here.
Three years earlier...
"We narrowly escaped another tragedy where someone could have been killed by someone who was in this country illegally," said Tancredo, a Republican candidate for U.S. president. "One wonders how many incidents have to occur before we actually take notice. No one is suggesting that illegal immigrants are the only people here committing crimes but they commit crimes in numbers disproportionate to the legal immigration population in this country."
Tancredo's interest in the 7-Eleven case piqued from Denver talk radio. The stations have devoted hours of morning chatter to the shooting, which police believe was directed at then-clerk Bruno Kirchenwitz ...
"The federal government is culpable and the local government is culpable,"... The Supreme Court ruled police don't even need probable cause to ask if they are here illegally."
Tancredo said he "strongly encourage(s) .. all police departments ... to call ICE to establish a 287 (g) contract," a program funded by the federal government to train and authorize local police officers to enforce immigration laws...
Tancredo...accused city of Newark officials of complicity in the execution-style slayings of three college students by failing to report the prior arrests of two suspects to immigration authorities.

Ramirez is still missing.
Shows his contempt for U.S. laws and law enforcement.
He was so sure that nothing like deportation would happen to him, he was comfy sneering at the cops.
There was a time when the illegals and the smugglers were terrified of American cops and would throw up their hands on apprehension.
But now they know U.S. law enforcement is a PC joke not to be taken seriously, so they diss them whenever they feel like it.
Tom may not make it to the final round of the presidential fight, but he stands nearly alone and absolutely RIGHT on the immigration issue. “W”, whom I voted for twice, has dropped the ball horribly on this issue.
.
No. He has not dropped the ball. He is clearly running with the ball toward a goal other than what we elected him to seek. He still apparently wants to Mexicanize the United States by any means.
Ramirez was deported to Mexico and returned a second time,
that makes him a felon.Glenwood Springs police are not interested in keeping felons off the streets.
Glenwood just released their alleged cop shooter too.
There is still time. Maybe if the people of the US will stop concentrating on who can win and get behind the ones that can really make a difference; we might have a chance at change.
Thanks for the ping. I am glad Tancredo is out there. I have donated $ to his campaign, even though I know he will not be the nominee.

We also selectively choose where to send our political donations.
The RNC people are not happy, but we are.
