What Does G.I. Joe Stand For?
More details surface on the live-action film.

August 24, 2007 - Who needs A Real American Hero? Not Paramount or Hasbro it seems. The studio's live-action feature film version of G.I. Joe will no longer revolve around a top-secret U.S. special forces team but rather an international operation.
In a follow-up to their confirmation that Stephen Sommers will direct G.I. Joe, Variety offers this new description of the team: "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer. The property is closer in tone to X-Men and James Bond than a war film."
Wow. A Real Globally Integrated Hero! Can we assume that this "double-crossing Scottish arms dealer" is Destro since he was one in the comics? And does that mean there will be no Cobra Commander in it?
So why the changes? Hasbro and Paramount execs recently spoke about the challenges of marketing a film about the U.S. military at a time when the current U.S. administration and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are at a low-point in global polls. When a studio makes a film as expensive as G.I. Joe will likely be, they want to know that as many people as possible around the world will want to see it. In other words, G.I. Joe -- "A Real American Hero" -- is a tough sell.
Although the new G.I. Joe team will be international in scope, don't expect Joe's British counterpart Action Man to be included after all. IESB.net reports, "Looks like he will be gone, this new script is set to be 100% GI Joe, it will revolve around the characters we all grew up with fighting Cobra, Destro, the Baroness and Storm Shadow. When do they expect to have this new script ready? Six to eight weeks. Pre-production is expected to start by October-November and production to start early '08."
"Our vision (for The Mummy) was clear the time the first trailer played during the Super Bowl, and by the time this one plays a Super Bowl, you'll see the coolest characters and visuals you can imagine, and beyond-state-of-the-art equipment," Sommers informed Variety. "I wouldn't have jumped into this just because of the Hasbro-Transformers tie. Remember, Pirates of the Caribbean was a big hit, but Haunted Mansion not so much."
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura added, "My experience with beloved properties is that characters, attitude and tone are even more important than plot. ... Paramount showed a great deal of confidence in Stephen's take, and our ability as producers to get this up and running for a February start. His passion for the characters and the world convinced the studio this was something they couldn't resist."
I suppose the mission of the new pc G.I. Joes in this movie will be to comabat global warming, save stranded and starving polar bears and convert their air and patrol vehicle fleets to bio-diesel...
That’s one more film I won’t be seeing.
They killed Captain American, neutered Superman and now take down GI Joe.
So many things will be wrong with this movie. Destro didn’t head COBRA, Cobra Commander did. The movie will probably jack up all the best characters as well, like Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Falcon, and Sgt Slaughter. I think I’ll keep watching the original GI Joe movie.
Johnny Freedom (freedomland) Lyrics
Artist(Band):Johnny Horton
JOHNNY FREEDOM
When our country was a baby and the Redcoats had their way
Is was he who had a party tossin tea in Boston Bay
It was he who braved the winter in the days of Valley Forge
Fightinside by side together with a fella name of George
Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
You can meet him on each page of history
Hes the spirit of America
Our countrys pride and joy
Hats off to Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
Thats our boy
When our country started growin and the wagons headed West
When our country called for pioneers his name led all the rest
What a figure in his raw hide coat and hat made of raccoon
Wonder what there was about him made you think of Danl Boone
Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
You can meet him on each page of history
Hes the spirit of America
Our countrys pride and joy
Hats off to Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
Thats our boy
If we need a mess of thinkin hes the Lincoln of the day
If were fixin fer a tussle its his muscle all the way
If we need a handsome fella so the ladies hearts can throb
Theres a Yankee Doodle Dandy always handy for the job
Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
You can meet him on each page of history
Hes the spirit of America
Our countrys pride and joy
Hats off to Johnny Freedom, Johnny Freedom
Thats our, thats our, thats our boy
Soon Hollyweird will be having GIJoe wearing a sock over his head, a table cloth around his neck and jumping through some flaming hoops, yelling “Yallah Ackbar”. (Just so they don’t offend and make a buck)
His wife and my mother were big DAR pals.
Highly treasured.
So the next G I Joe doll will have both hands stuck up that you can’t turn down and be equipped with several white flags in case one or more is dropped or lost in the retreat.
I suspect they will only be carrying walkie-talkies and MacGyver gear as they nonviolently trip up greedy corporate polluters.
The UN/liberal approved issue of G.I. Joe contains a courts martial module for trying him for war crimes.
Oh brother.
General Issue Everyman; a grunt, foot-soldier, slogger, cannon fodder; way back when, every troop was called “Joe.”
...okay, so here’s a chance for them to put the US Military in a good light and they’re too scared to do it.
Hollywood should **** off.......
This is my GI Joe Film— started but not completed— this is one scene from the middle area. It wound up taking too long to do, and when my daughter was born, I couldn’t justify spending the countless hours on it. Maybe when she gets a bit older she can help me on it.
But, this weekend we did work on our next flick— a zombie movie.
(we like making movies at my house...)

I haven’t been to see a new movie in at least 20 years, don’t watch HBO, Showtime, or the rest, and don’t feel the least bit culturally deprived, LOL.
