Aaron Russo, made famous by his films “Trading Places” and the Golden Globe-winning “The Rose,” died on Friday at the age of 64.

Russo, who had been battling cancer for an extended period of time, was also a well known political activist who openly criticized the U.S. government’s policies on the war on drugs and medical regulations. His libertarian views brought him many supporters and admirers and in 1998 he entered the Republican primary for governor of Nevada.

Despite falling short in the election Russo continued with his political aspirations and entered the 2004 Presidential race where he began his campaign as a Libertarian but did not earn the nomination from his party.

Russo pledged his allegiance to libertarian policies and was one of the first to endorse Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for the 2008 election.

With Russo’s involvement in politics he blended his filmmaking art and created the documentary “America: Freedom to Fascism” which investigates federal income tax and the laws that supposedly support the act.

He referred to WTC 7 which was not rammed with airliners.

There is still a controversy and I do not follow it.

Russo made some great films. His only political documentary was not a work of a ‘nut’.

Let’s hear you expound on ‘flaws’.

Dead thread brought back for one more comment. Russo was dying of cancer and he showed signs of not caring what people thought of him in his last days, while making the documentary. When someone has nothing to lose, they either go off the deep end and creates works totally incoherent, or they do something worthwhile they would never have done while their livelihood was at stake. Obviously, the latter wins out.

If one chooses to reject a work or evidence in that work based on political affiliation, then that one is blinded to protect themselves personally. Ignorance is defined as “dumb by choice.” I choose to weigh evidence on fact, not feelings.

The point of his documentary stands regarding there being no law requiring employees to pay income tax. I have yet to see ANYONE defy this to be wrong. Now then, if we could just find a way to convince 50 million taxpayers to stop filing 1040s, too many tax evaders to jail, perhaps change would come. That, or Ron Paul winning in November. Anyone care to wager on either of those? Not me.

Truth does not automatically win, or Christ would not have needed to give himself on the cross of Calvary.

There is an acknowledged aristocracy in Washington DC that is every bit as controlling as the nobel lords of the Crown of England in centuries past. They will never allow any movement that risks displacement of their entrenched positions and power.

Do not attempt to overturn the tax code by legal or historical argument. Instead change the rules to make it transparent and in line with the original intent of the Constitution.

HR 25 does precisely this and it has significant backing in Congress, highly significant, enough so that it poses a real threat to the current tax code.

Here are the details:
