Aaron Russo, made famous by his films Trading Places and the Golden Globe-winning The Rose, died on Friday at the age of 64.
Russo, who had been battling cancer for an extended period of time, was also a well known political activist who openly criticized the U.S. governments policies on the war on drugs and medical regulations. His libertarian views brought him many supporters and admirers and in 1998 he entered the Republican primary for governor of Nevada.
Despite falling short in the election Russo continued with his political aspirations and entered the 2004 Presidential race where he began his campaign as a Libertarian but did not earn the nomination from his party.
Russo pledged his allegiance to libertarian policies and was one of the first to endorse Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for the 2008 election.
With Russos involvement in politics he blended his filmmaking art and created the documentary America: Freedom to Fascism which investigates federal income tax and the laws that supposedly support the act.
"There's no way that Building 7 came down without a controlled demolition, it takes weeks to do the controlled demolition, they couldn't have done it in a few hours like Larry Silverstein said - it blows the whole game - concrete doesn't turn to powder unless its exploded."
"We all know that 9/11 was a fraud - an inside job," concluded Russo.
And a Ron Paul supporter.
There goes half of his total number of supporters! =(
I bought it!
He was a talented filmmaker, and the artistic community has lost one of its more memorable members.
64 is way too young for anyone to pass away.
Prayers for his family.

So he was a nut job.
Well he sounds like a real nutjob. That being said Trading Places is one of those movies I love watching over and over again. Many great lines from that movie.
RIP Aaron-thanks for everything. you will be missed.
Trading places is one of my all time favorites.
Sell Mortimer, selllllll!!!
Yeah, he was a Troofer and a bit of a paranoiac, but I think a lot of that was colored by having death at his doorstep for years, and being legally persecuted his pro-medical-marijuana activism. His fellow Libertarian, the late Peter McWilliams, also became a bit of an A-hole when he was dying of AIDS and got hauled into Federal court for similar self-prescriptive activities.
Rest in peace, Mr. Russo. Prayer for your family and friends.
Could you try to show some class for once in your life?
Ping
RIP.
No he wasn’t at all, he was quite unbiased in Freedom to Fascism and looked at all sides of the debate.
This coming from me, a longtime conservative since the years of Ronald Reagan.
Have a look for yourself before judging:

This film is life-changing for all Americans, from every walk of life, every political persuasion....it is about 1.5 hours long and you will need a high speed connection.
Isn’t amazing the number of libertarians who think a) the government is not competent - nor charged - to do anything outside of the Constitution and b) The US Government, led by President Stupidhead, brought down the twin towers on 9/11?
I watched it. My life has not changed. It was interesting, but flawed. It was above the standard of Michael Moore, but suffered from some of the same flaws, which are endemic to the medium of documentary film, in my opinion.
If he thinks 9-11 was an inside job, he’s a nut. Might as well starting dating Rosie.
