Norway is currently the world’s number one nation in terms of human development, second in GDP per capita and Jens Stoltenberg, the Prime Minister is a Socialist.
Would you mind breaking down some particulars? Such as how much is oil revenue etc? The population their entitlements etc? How much is cultural and how does that come into play?
The writer writes a lot about Norway and its welfare state. Norway can “afford” its welfare rolls thanks to oil....for now.
Socialism always rots from the inside out. The rot is much faster at the end of a gun (Venezuela) but it will come to Norway too. It always does.

Sure, here you go. I would only add that culture is an extremely important variable in Scandinavian socialism.
From the US Department of Energy: “Norway is an advanced, highly-developed economy that has greatly benefited from the utilization of its hydrocarbon resources. In 2005, the country had a gross domestic product (GDP) of $295 billion, and a per-capita GDP of $64,000, which is one of the highest in the world. The Norwegian economy grew by 2.5 percent in 2005, and is forecasted to grow by 2.2 percent in 2006. Norways economy is highly dependent on its offshore oil and natural gas sector, which provides the government with its largest single source of revenue and the largest contribution to GDP. In recent years, high oil prices have made for government budget and current account surpluses, and rising disposable income.”

Thanks for the link.
In recent decades the politics in Norway alternates between social democratic and liberal (in the free market sense) governments.
Socialists have been an important factor in Norwegian politics since the election of 1927. How long socialism will remain an important dynamic in Norway’s political and economic systems is anybody’s guess. Both free market and socialist Norwegian governments have been wise in investing oil profits for the days when the oil and gas run out. Its just that the oil revenues have been so huge that Norwegian political parties out duel each other for increasing government benefits to the people. In spite of this, Norway’s public debt as a percentage of GDP is 45% compared to the US where it is 65%,
The current parliamentary majority is a coalition of the Labour Party, the Socialist Left Party and the Center Party.
That would be the 1970s, an awful decade that the democrat candidates would bring back.
These children will have real problems with the Muzzies when they take over. These little boys won’t be able to sit around and whine anymore.
