PHOENIX (Reuters) - Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies removed 12 distressed pit bulls from the Phoenix area home of rapper-turned-actor DMX in a raid that also found a number of firearms, police said on Friday.
Sheriffs' office spokesman Capt. Paul Chagolla said DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, 36, was not at home during the raid.
"We served an initial search warrant for animal neglect, and 12 pit bulls were removed," Chagolla told Reuters by telephone.
"There are weapons in the home, and we are in the process of obtaining an amended warrant," he added.

It would not be much of a stretch to think that dog fighting might be involved here too.
Geez, I did keyword: DMX, too and nothing came up. Ugh!
Ya gotta be fast with Pit Bull stories these days...
Go git ‘em, Joe!!!
Sadly, the Feds have already set a precedent with Vicks, (18 months?).
And, DMX, unlike Vicks is a rapper, not an NFL player. Vicks can be tossed from football, but DMX can still be a rap star and will probably sell more records because of this.
I wish and hope they throw the book at him.
Is he out of trouble yet for masquerading as a federal agent in a club a year or so ago?
I don’t know...I think they will. Sheriff Arpaio doesn’t take much crap. Maybe DMX will be living in the famed tent city.
I HAD to leave that ugly place...118 in the afternoon, 108 at midnight.
No shade.
Yea, we are down here in Yuma. It sucks. We had two separate incidents, on base here if you can believe it, of dogs dying because they were left out constantly. It is horrible. And now it’s monsoon season, so not only is it hot, its humid too.
If my name was Earl Simmons, I'd change it to DMX too.
Go to Wikipedia and check out this thug’s past run-ins with the law. He belongs in prison.
My reply was “I hope you don’t ever find out”.
I saw it many years ago when we drove through Yuma on a family vacation. That's a place I would not have wanted to spend time in!
Chagolla could not immediately say if the seized animals had any connection to dogfighting.
Meanwhile, Arpaio, an animal-rights crusader, has sent the rescued pit bulls to an air-conditioned cell at the First Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix.
Sheriff Joe came upon an excellent way to find out if "the seized animals had any connection to dogfighting" - count the live dogs tomorrow morning. For those of you who are thinking 'why not count the dead dogs?'... too much assembly required.
I was in a hotel last week in Chicago and four ESPNs (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News and ESPN Classic) were among the otherwise limited TV options. The first three had live shots from the court room regarding Michael Vick. The same live shot — on three channels! Did we really need that? I abhor ESPN and more so sports radio because I think they magnify this sensationalism. The sad thing is there are many good athletes —white, black, etc — as people about whom the public never or rarely will hear. Ken Griffey Jr. is a decent guy from a good family. His dad played for years. Well-spoken, charitable, etc. He is the type of person who should be the focus of sports media and whom should be the subject of a strong individual but he isn’t controversial enough.
