Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Peter Pace is labeling as "purely speculative" a report in the Los Angeles Times Friday that he is expected to recommend to President Bush that U.S. troop levels in Iraq next year should be cut by nearly half.
However, Pace's reaction to the story did not deny that a significant troop reduction is an option being considered by the Joint Chiefs as they develop a strategic assessment on the way forward in Iraq.
Citing unnamed administration and military officials, the Los Angeles Times article said Pace is concerned that keeping a military force significantly larger than 100,000 troops in Iraq through next year would be a severe strain on the military and would compromise its ability to respond to other worldwide threats. There are currently 162,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
The Times article said the Joint Chiefs would favor the troop reduction because they are concerned that the Iraq War "has degraded the U.S. military's ability to respond, if needed, to other threats, such as Iran."
In a statement, Pace said, "The L.A. Times article is purely speculative. The Joint Chiefs and I always review a wide range of options on any issue. I take very seriously my duty to provide the best military advice to the president. I provide that advice privately to the president."

I was just clicking around and this guy (the lieing reporter) was on MSNBC being praised by the guest host (Barnicle) and some retired military guy (jacobs?) was confirming pretty much was the reporter said.
Once again, MSNBC, in coordination with the left wing loonies, have taken some water cooler gossip source and presented a FALSE report to its viewers.
MSNBC - hate speech and lies from morning til night.
MSNBC are masters at the lie. They plug 3 liberals to have a debate but all I hear is everyone agreeing with everyone.
Newspaper this morning reported this as fact, but then claimed Pace might soften it before he advises Bush. So they totally prepared for the story to be untrue, and they will claim it was true but now Pace is covering up.
The article acknowledged in fine print that in the end the Joint Chiefs have to give great deference to the commander on the ground.

They claimed the Joint Chiefs will say having resources in Iraq reduces our ability to deal with Iran. Seems hard to believe that is true, when our forces in Iraq are right next door and are preventing the Iranians from destabilizing Iraq.

The media is pissed off at President Bush for using the after Vietnam analogy so they’re going on their own jihad because to bring up Vietnam lays part of the blame on the media.
Kind of like the 16 font size headlines front page but the correction is a 6 font size tucked under the lotto numbers on the second page.
