Did you identify this as a MM meeting? Was it just a meeting or was they some kind of public activism involved?

It would be unusual for them to include an insurance clause if they did not know it was MM or if it was just a general meeting. It is also unusual that once they felt the need for an insurance policy that they didn’t disclose the amount they required up front.

Did you eventually send them a copy of your policy? IF so you would have the fax documentation. Did you drop it off in person?

Was the meeting canceled due to the hotel or the cops?

I don’t see how the police could charge you any fees for holding an event on private property, if the need for security was due to the counter protesters on public property they should have got the fees from them. I also don’t see how a contract could enforce a “pay my legal fees” clause without an arbitration clause.

Personally, this doesn’t sound like the mountain I’d want to die on. Better to rip off a few nasty letters to hotel management and the police dept. asking for explanations and move on.

Lot’s of other hotels.

In the past I have set up many forecast/hind-cast meetings (20-40 attendees) at Holiday Inns (and others)in various locations and never was asked for proof of insurance.

I've set up events at hotels before as well, and I've never been asked for proof of insurance from any of them.

Their constitutional rights were violated. I hope the Minutemen get millions for this.

Sounds like the hotel messed up by folding to police pressure and are now trying to pass the buck on to you.

>>Neither entity had any involvement in the peace group’s plans<<

If they are of peaceful why do the cops have to watch them?

not that I stay at Holiday Inn’s in my travels but I will strongly discourage their use from now on.
