WASHINGTON (Reuters) - "The chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff is expected to urge President George W. Bush to cut U.S. troop levels in Iraq next year, the Los Angeles Times said on Friday, citing military and administration officials."
"Marine Gen. Peter Pace, whose term as chairman expires at the end of September, is expected to contend that keeping significantly more than 100,000 troops in Iraq through next year would severely strain the military and compromise its ability to respond to other threats, the newspaper said."

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
If true, this explains Warner’s comments, as well as those of Hilda and other Dems. They know what the plan is and want to take credit for the draw down.

Exactly! I read a post on here the other day that said it is their strategy.
What next? Condi and Laura are going to suggest we cut back/out of Iraq?
As we rolled into Baghdad, Hillary did a bit with Russert: "It has always been the policy of the Democratic Party to take down the regime of Saddam Hussein".
“...would severely strain the military and compromise its ability to respond to other threats.”
Very different than the Dems saying that we’re losing, can’t win, shouldn’t have been there, yada, yada, yada
“They know what the plan is and want to take credit for the draw down.”
The flip side of that coin is that the Administration knew, or had some idea, of the “plan”, had no clue about that plan, or had no plan at all. Oh, I left out, bungling what could have been a workable plan (Petreaus).

we need to move them in positions 40,000 ft over Iran
As long as we don’t lose because of it.
Bogus story because it will happen supposedly in private to where we won’t know what is said and Pace being JCOS can’t just come in the open and say anything without President Bush’s permission which the media will claim President Bush is restricting Gen Pace.
#2 The story today from the LAT is insane. The headline is “Top General to urge troop cuts”, then you read the story and it quotes ‘anonymous officials’ that say it is ‘likely’ that Pace will recommend some troop cuts, and it ‘potentially’ is at odds with others in the WH and Pentagon. Then later the story says they spoke on condition of anonymity, because they haven’t decided what they are going to do, and even if they do suggest a troop cut, would only do it privately, so you won’t hear about it anyway. Again... the headline was “Top General to urge troop cuts”. Just pathetic.
Where in the world are there any threats to U.S. security more than the Middle East?
Cut out the 30,000 troops in Korea and 30,000 in Germany is more like it.
