House Republican leader John A. Boehner says immigration is the top issue at town hall meetings he has participated in across the country during the August recess.
Mr. Boehner said Republicans can take back control of Congress next year with a focus on conservative principles, despite sluggish fundraising numbers and poll numbers that favor Democrats.
"So far, the questions I'm hearing most are 'who will secure the borders?' " the Ohio Republican wrote in an op-ed for the conservative Web site Townhall.com yesterday. " 'Who has a plan to reduce gas prices and make us less dependent on foreign oil?' 'Who will make health care more affordable?' And, 'who will defend America from the threat of terrorism?' "
In addition, Republican sources say Mr. Boehner and other party leaders are receiving a large volume of voter feedback on what they call the "stolen vote" issue.
Shortly before Congress adjourned for its summer recess, a vote on the House floor appeared to discount Republican vote totals. Republicans have pushed for an investigation into the vote on an agricultural spending bill that would have denied federal benefits to illegal aliens.

Boehner and Blunt are the leading conservative voices in Washington, we could add Jeff Sessions and John Cornyn as well, but they are what we have.
No new taxes, cut spending, secure border, fix Social security with individual investment accounts...
Wow, a Republican leader with a clue! How novel.
“Boehner for President???”
Please, we have enough of ‘em running. He’s a good guy, but enough is enough.
Reads as though Conservatives have been active during the Summer Recess. This is good. Let’s see how this plays out. I’d like to see some action towards rearrangement of leadership in the RNC, like getting someone similar to Haley Barbour in the leadership. Martinez doesn’t cut it.
Get rid of the Moderate/Lib element in the RNC, lock the Mod/Libs out of the RNC, and show some respect for the Conservative base of the Republican Party and we’ll start sending some money again.
I agree. I used to contribute to Tancredo BUT he “FORGOT” to define what a sanctuary city etc is that are not to receive Federal funds.
I know every man and his dog is running, but not too many seem to be capturing the imagination...
If he has a boehner for border security and jailing employers
A little secret? Boehner was my neighbor .... no on second thought he lived down the street.
He is a Xavier grad and a self proclaimed professional politician from day one. He talks a good talk, but you wouldn’t want him as a neighbor.
Stand up men are honorable. This man is neither.
All I ask is for someone to Walk the talk.
How soon we forget McCain/Feingold. How soon we forget Kennedy/Boehner education plan ....
“...but not too many seem to be capturing the imagination...”
The key is to get people to focus on the credentials of the Candidates (which is a dream of course) rather than only listening, reading, watching MSM.
I see one Candidate in particular whom would sail off with this coming election if people only knew his credentials better, but I also believe his efforts personally of getting his record out there for all to see has been tremendously lacking. His Campaign theme seems to be the harder I work, the more the people will see me as their choice.
He is not blowing his own horn loudly enough, if at all.
One cannot be humble in a Political Campaign.
First question obviously has to be why hasn't Mr. Boehner and the Republicans been focusing on conservative principles for the last 7 years?
What I think is actually going on is that the campaigns of Rudy and Romney will reinvigorate the Republican party in the NE. There are conservatives there, to be sure, but also moderates. Try winning by selling the best ideas, not locking out those you disagree with.
... and with never a hair out of place, he is a scratch golfer!
We gotta get rid of the RINOS.
Period.
Gotta, gotta.
Iffen we don’t—THEN THEY WILL SABOTAGE EVERYTHING.
That’s what they DO.
We gotta.
No John. No Rudy. No Ron. No more RINOS!
AND SO SAY ALL OF US.
illegal aliens, gas prices, health care, and terrorism.
Republicans should win on illegal aliens and terrorism. (Repubs always win on national security...but they’d better shut up the Rino Open Border types.)
Democrats will probably win on gas prices and health care. (It’s easier to promise money than to promise substance.)
“At least someone seems to get it. Boehner for President???”
My bad...I hadn’t given it a thought that anyone would think I’d be referencing Ron Paul in my comments. No way.
From the beginning of his thoughts of campaigning for the Presidency I’ve said NO RUDY. He’s far too Liberal for this time in the history of the United States. We need to turn the direction towards open borders, thus Globalization around, and stable that creature. Let the Libs maintain it, shovel up after it, pet it, love it, but not real Americans. Our Freedom, our Sovereignty is too important to lose, and that is what will happen if we get Liberals in the leadership.
Romney is Controversial although a great business head on his shoulders, as does Rudy, but................?
My comments were about the only one somewhat campaigning for the Presidency, at least his name is on the list whom is really showing action on the issues, and has a track record of such, Duncan Hunter. He needs to blow his horn, wave his flag, show clips of his achievments etc. and get noticed.
Then too maybe someday there will be Fred, but he isn’t officially yet in the race, and I don’t know about everybody else, but I started to breathe again due the blue hue to my face. Wasn’t worth holding my breath any longer. It happens...it happens. I don’t think I’ll be all that excited when, or if it does happen he announces.
Boehner...Standing up tall for America!
Boehner...Erecting a new future!
Boehner...He's every inch a leader!
Boenher...A Firm Hand at the Controls
Exactly. This statement by Boehner is rich considering that the idiot got his House leadership post by claiming to be “a realist” i.e. keep the big govt GOP policies coming all the while attacking the true conservative Mike Pence.
