In fairness to the film “Apocalypto” the savagery of the Mayans was countered by the protagonist’s courageous determination to get back to his family and his mate’s willingness to sacrifice herself for the survival of her children.

But I know you were referring to the Mayans/Aztecs. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing a bunch of ACLU lawyers up on that pyramid, having their still-beating black hearts held up to their dying eyes.
