It isn’t an act, my family has been here almost 400 years, things like this bother me. Our family history records many deaths in our journey to help create this piece of the world. On the Romney threads I never see any respect given to the victims.

I am intolerant of people mocking the G.I.s at Little Big Horn for instance, that laugh at the event or consider it a fair battle, without asking about the treatment of the POWs.

Any time the massacre discussion arises, we should remember that the victims are our people and they deserve to be thought of with respect.

Um... Could this be because it has absolutely nothing to do with Romney? Are you out there trying to insert this crap into Romney threads? Why?

“I am intolerant of people mocking the G.I.s at Little Big Horn for instance, that laugh at the event or consider it a fair battle, without asking about the treatment of the POWs.”

Some of my relatives were at the Little Big Horn... On the winning side I’m told. That doesn’t have anything to do with the current presidential election either.

This film is a hit piece. It was timed to come out now for a reason. If they wanted to do a documentary, they could have done it at any time during the last 50 years.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone mock the soldiers at LBH.

Mock Custer, sure. It's a very old tradition to mock military leaders who make very bad decisions and get their soldiers wiped out. Especially when they're flamboyant and boastful.

What was unfair about the battle? US soldiers attacked an Indian village that was a lot larger than they realized and got clobbered. BTW, what exactly is a "fair battle," and how do you go about setting one up?

Also BTW, there were no POWs at LBH. All were killed on the field of battle.

See the link at Post #31. The article linked discusses the effect on the victims and their descendants quite extensively. It also discusses joint memorials raised by the church and descendants of the victims.

I also posted this the other day.

I have no ancestors who were involved in the MMMassacre but feel the shame and guilt based on being a member from the same church. (Not to digress but It shames me that Harry Reid claims Mormon status in the same way I assume it shames some Catholics that Kerry claims to be Catholic).

I guess I just find it hard to let go of. Its like the Church said in their official apology. Nothing justified the murder at MMM.

Agreed. I think part of the problem is the film-maker's choice to paste a western romance on top of deadly serious content. There was a need to humanize the participants, but it wound up triviaizing the history. I think the other problem is that people don't fall into religious zealotry because they are suddenly struck with a desire to be inflexible and intolerant. Followers of Brigham Young, like followers of Billy Graham, have tremendous affection for their leader, and they get downright surly when you criticize them. Exploring the source of that affection is the key to making the drama credible.
