You’re in denial, dear Auntie.
I stand by my story. You can defile my ancestors as much as you want if it makes you feel better.
To deny the existence of the Danites is to swallow the propaganda that has been fed to you. They were in play long before the Mormons arrived in Utah.
Stephen Maloney didn’t have death threats. He had death attempts. There were a lot of people that had to flee during this period.
So they didn’t have an official “temple” built yet. They still had these ceremonies.
If you don’t want to read the historical records that have similar claims, it’s not my fault.
Now go pick a fight with someone else.
You are the one who is swallowing propaganda.
The alleged claim of 3 attempts on your great grandfather's life is laughable on its face.
According to your saintly ancestor we are to believe that the deadly "Danites", who were so evil, and so masterful at their craft, as to put fear into the hearts of every mormon and non-mormon throughout the entire U.S., nay the entire world, couldn't bump off one irishman--even with 3 attempts?
These alleged professional assassins, with hundreds if not thousands of kills to their credit,(at least according to the "eyewitness" accounts of unimpeachable anti-mormon "witnessesses"), couldn't succeed in 3 tries at one man in the (literally) one-horse town of Provo in the 1860's?
Face it, it is far more likely your great grandfather became embroiled in some petty personal ego problem, became offended, blamed the church and cooked up this ludicrous "story" to defend his hurt pride.
The claim the Danites enforced the blood oath penalties against anyone who refused to practice polygamy is an old anti-mormon lie hatched in the fever swamps of hateful apostate minds. Since less than 10% of the church practiced polygamy in the 1800's the Danites would have been busy day and night slitting throats from coast-to-coast. What crap.
And the allegation that Brigham Young had his eyes on one of your relatives is also so eye-poppingly stupidly ridiculous as to strain credulity. This also was a common anti-mormon tactic to demonize Brigham Young in the minds of the gullible and stupid eastern press and populace. If Brigham Young oogled as many young women as is claimed he did he would never have had time to colonize the western U.S., lead the church, and govern the sprawling territory of Deseret. Being a full-time lecher would have consumed ALL of his time, leaving NO TIME for anything else. If your "story" is to be believed Brigham Young would have been traveling non-stop from Logan to St. George (no easy feat without interstate highways) just to visit all his intended victims.
BTW, if the Danites killed (or tried to kill) everyone that wouldn't practice polygamy, why did my ancestors survive without leaving Utah?
Not ME!
I've gotten over myself already!
