Former Bush Scribe To Thompson's Staff
Matt Scully, a former speechwriter for President Bush, is back to work--this time for soon to be candidate Fred Thompson.
Thompson spokeswoman Linda Rozett confirmed Thursday that Scully has joined Team Thompson, but wouldn't say what, specifically, he is doing for the non-campaign.
"We are a team effort," she wrote in an e-mail. "A lot of people are helping Fred Thompson test the waters--Ed McFadden, Mary Matalin...and Matt Scully."
Word on the street is that Scully is busy writing Thompson's announcement speech. But as of now, its not clear exactly when the speech will be given.
Thompson has been hinting at an announcement for months. Advisers say it's likely that he will announce in the first week of September, after Labor Day, but before the September 11 anniversary.
If so, we might not have to wait long to see what Scully has put together

if this is Scully’s calim to fame, he’s easier to swallow than Matalin and Abraham
Matalin? Where’s the Aw Geez pic?
That's the important part.
CAN A SPEECH WRITER INSIST ON A TALLER PODIUM FOR FRED?
HE SURE COULD HAVE USED ONE AT THE VFW.
http://Vets4Fred.net It's time for Vets to sign up!
Taller podium and a dab of just for men hair coloring before the announcement! (if I was adivising Fred)
His wife was all proud of cute widdle David for coming up with this nonsense.
Why blame Scully for that crap?
Looky here :)
What’s wrong with Axis of Evil? IMHO, it seems appropo...given the nation states it encompasses.
Scully recounts the story of the “axis of evil” phrase, which Bush used in his 2002 State of the Union to describe Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Scully notes that colleague David Frum originally came up with “axis of hatred,” as reported before. Scully says he suggested changing it to “evil.” He does not cite any examples of Gerson explicitly claiming the phrase as his own, pointing instead to news accounts attributing it to him that have gone uncorrected. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/10/AR2007081002403.html
They are all evil for different reasons and need to be handled differently.
By lumping them all into one group we got the endless and useless discussions about how the Bush administration was willing to go to war with Iraq who had no nukes, but wouldn't go to war with NK or Iran who had them ... or soon will.
It is really stupid to have the President say things which either ties his hands diplomatically/militarily or makes him out to be going back on his words when he doesn't follow them.
Even if it is just a really crappy metaphor.
Mary Matalin, pipeline to lizard man, really bothers me. I
don’t trust her for one second. Dump her,Fred!
Oh, goodie! More Bush people on Fred’s staff. Now we are sure to get more of the same if he is elected.

I can’t say I’m pleased to see her lurking about in Fred’s camp and more than I was pleased when she was part of the VP’s office.
I like the map. Now we just need to expand it a little to the west and to the northeast.
Awesome map PM!
Matalin was on duty when the Cheney hunting accident occured and made the decisions about how information was released.
I thought she handled that pretty well, you have to admit that anybody that makes David Gregory’s head explode on national tv can’t be all bad.
LOL!
If he’ll just make the announcement, I wouldn’t care if my 4th grader wrote it!
Anyone know who wrote Bush’s speech yesterday to the VFW??? It was FABULOUS!!!!!!!
