When one person says something stupid, it's easy enough to laugh it off. But when two people say the same stupid thing, in separate public settings at roughly the same time, it starts to smell funny. New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury said at an appearance this week: ''We don't say anything about people shooting deers [sic] and shooting other animals, you know what I mean? From what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors, and I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down.''
And R.L. White, president of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP, condemned Vick by saying that dogfighting is as bad as hunting.
Huh?

Is Cabela’s coming out with a dog fighting catalog?
These idiots don’t even deserve a proper response. If they can’t see the difference between raising and training dogs to kill one another, and the thinning of deer herds to prevent overpopulation and animal starvation, they’re already too far gone.
Cut the guy some slack. Maybe he’s been playing Football without a helmet or something...
(ummm. waitaminit! Rugby guys don’t wear helmets, and rugby guys don’t say moronic things...
...ummm nevermind!)
Stating fact doesn’t win you fame on the internet.
Except from me :)
The difference is psychological. America and most civilized countries love their dogs. We think nothing about eating cows, pigs, deer, and other animals. But to even suggest to eat a dog is inhumane. If this were cock fighting, I doubt if there would be much outrage. Dogs are loved more than any other animal.
hunting and dog fighting are not related, but this man is clearly trying to play the moral relativism card to compare black vick to white hunters and create a race issue out of this.
on another note, 50 dogs will have to be put down b/c of the animal vick. he should have to pay to house and rehab those dogs, or if they are killed, he should be charged with those deaths as well. he created those monsters, he should bear the burden.
Well one of the Barber brothers-I think it was Tiki a couple of weeks ago stated that somewhere in the vicintiy of 75% of the NFL (players)have attended dog fights. I hope they’re sweating the names out of Vick.
That is why the Ladies Temperance League has priorities.
Doggies are cute, after all. They peg the Cute-O-Meter. Mildred has the most adorable Miniature Schnauser. Dogs must be protected.
Or they are into dog fighting.
Just keepin’ it real, knowumsayin ...
And you usually don’t gamble on hunting although it does happen. And we don’t raise killer deer that kill our kids.
I just can’t believe that people are treating dogfighting like it is worse than rape or murder.
We put down dogs all the time. If you want to rehab a bunch of pit bulls, have at it. I don’t want a pit bull anywhere around me, no matter who raised it.
What is in the breed is hard to train out. And even then, it is just below the surface. I have a Welsh Corgi at home. They have a tendency to nip, because that is how they herd animals. We trained the nipping out of him as well as we could, but he nipped my daughter last night while putting her to bed. No big deal, of course. But it’s always there. We put him in a ring with sheep, and he herded them all into a corner, even though he had never seen a sheep in his life. It’s just always there.
With the pit bull, the aggressiveness is always there.
Fine, then he should be charged with those 50+ deaths as well. My main point is that he is responsible for these dogs too, not just the ones he killed; therefore, he should be accountable for whatever happens one way or the other.
Les’ not be jumpin’ to conklooshin’s...
Did “only” Vick go to the dogfight? Surely, the way it seems to be reported, this is a one person show, he trained them, he sold the tickets, he watched the sport and he put down the dogs. Good thing we’ve got ALL the culprits in this.
