Are the Democrats evolving?

After months of heaping scorn on the very idea that a new military strategy could achieve results in Iraq, a growing number of antiwar critics now acknowledge that the very idea they contemptuously dismissed is achieving results after all. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin said Monday after visiting Iraq that he saw "credible and positive results" from the troop reinforcements. He added that visits to bases in Baghdad and Mosul showed that the military aspects of the troop "surge" have made progress in reducing violence and giving Iraqi political leaders time to work for political reconciliation.

Mr. Levin and the ranking Republican on the Armed Services panel, Sen. John Warner (another critic of the troop "surge") issued a statement that said they were "also encouraged by continuing positive results — in al Anbar Province, from the recent decisions of some of the Sunni tribes to turn against al Qaeda and cooperate with coalition force efforts to kill or capture its adherents." Democratic Rep. Brian Baird of Washington, who just returned from Iraq, now says he believes U.S. forces should remain in the country as long as necessary to ensure stability and that he will no longer vote for binding deadlines to withdraw troops. Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Bob Casey, who also just returned, have conceded that U.S. forces are making progress militarily.

Of course the Democrats are evolving. They’ve been evolving for years from a Fabian socialist group of leftists into a gang of Bolshevik thugs. At their present trajectory, they’ll continue evolving into the American version of the Khymer Rouge. That’ll be a great day to be alive, I’ll tell ya.

Why are we still referring to these Socialists as “Democrats”?

There also seems to be a growing consensus in Washington that a large part of the problem is the ineffectual leadership of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Lose a b!tching point and create another mantra to b!tch about.

It's the way of the dem's who don't have a clue as to how to take charge and instead depend upon doom and gloom for self promotion.

It's just never good enough for them...

Slightly. From pond scum to monkeys maybe. It's a start... Now that their "the war has been lost" mantra has been clearly proven wrong, they have two choices: one, try and cover it up by discrediting the report and making even bigger fools of themselves, or two: just suck it up and admit the President was right about the surge.

I think the entire Democratic party (along with some RINOs) should take a mass field trip to Iraq and see for themselves that progress really HAS been made, instead of just bloviating about it in DC. Reid and Pelosi get front row views, cuz they seriously need a reality check about Iraq. Harry organized a Senate slumber party, time for a Senate field trip!

More like the Clymer Rouge.

I like how they try to pass off opportunistic positioning as evolving. I don’t know where they are going to go with this. They put all their marbles on defeat in Iraq, and after 4 years of extreme, shrill, over the top rhetoric they will not be able to position themselves on this one.

The Democrats engineered a defeat in Vietnam after first getting our troops out of country and then cutting off funding to our South Vietnamese allies. President Bush has successfully countered their strategy to do this again by surging troops in country and pledging not to leave Iraq as long as he’s President. The defeatists on the left, their allies in the media, along with the Democrats have been exposed for what they are. I need not say the word.

They will say whatever the NYT tells them to say, but what they will do is another matter. They will pull the plug, that is what they will do. Then they will merrily blame Bush for any resulting mess.

I just want to object to the way these advocates of diplomacy keep creating international incidents by their impolitic remarks. It was Obama burned in effigy. Now Levin got PM Maliki’ goat.

Wait 2 years.

I realize everyone is currently enjoying their HappyThoughts, but the truth of the matter is Iran is still winning. And the Republican party is a shambles.

It isn't remotely enough...
