A funny thing happened on the way to getting dressed (gag alert)
MSNBC ^ | August 21, 2007 | Allison Linn

In the newest ad for Levi’s 501 jeans, a guy opens up a box and takes out a new pair of jeans. As he pulls the pants on, the entire street below him magically rises into his apartment as well -- carrying with it an attractive stranger who happens to be standing in a nearby phone booth. The two exchange a meaningful look and walk off into the night, arms touching flirtatiously.

If you’re like a lot of people, you’ll immediately think: Wait, who uses a pay phone anymore? But what’s really likely to get people’s attention is that the stranger in the phone booth is a woman in one version of this ad and a man in another.

The gay version of the ad is currently airing only on the gay- and lesbian-themed Logo channel, although Levi Strauss & Co. said it does have plans to air it on other cable stations with both gay and straight audiences.

Okay, this company did originate in San Francisco, but is it really wise to pander to less than two percent of the population?

No way homosexuals can begin to buy that many pairs of jeans.

Well, I guess I'm not like a lot of people, because I immediately thought:
Who gets jeans in a freakin' BOX ???

Uh... so they produce marketing materials that conform to the audience they’ll play to. Uh... so what?

Heading off to buy Carhartts.

You obviously haven't seen the lesbian version of that commercial.

Best (and funniest) Levi's commercial I ever saw on the tube played in Europe (not here, at least I never saw it):

Hawt woman flags-down a cab and steps in.
Appropriately-greasy male cab driver leers at her in his rearview mirror.
"She" pulls out an electric razor and starts shaving her chin.
Shot of taxi driver in shock. Cab screeches to a halt.
Close-up of "woman's" backside in jeans walking away.
Shot of Levi's logo.

That’s the trouble with raw capitalism. It knows no morality or loyalty beyond profit.

All the Levi’s ads are slutty:

That’s the trouble with raw capitalism. It knows no morality or loyalty beyond profit.

Capitalism is freedom. Freedom is choice. Capitalism in its raw form cannot exist without some morals. The rule of law must exist, and the morality of personal responsibility for failure and award for accomplishment must exist.

The practice of other morals cannot be laid at the doorstep of an economic system.

Oh no, I can’t wear them, they have gay cooties!!!!

Actually costco sells pretty good jeans, and they’re a lot cheaper.

We quit buying Levis when they shut down their manufacturing centers in the US and moved them off-shore. There are plenty of other brands to choose from at a better price and just as good quality.

“And your point is????”

The point is that when companies only care about making money they will pander to any group of perverts with a few bucks without regard for the long term effects on society.

True, however ask Ford how this is working out for them! Free market will take care of Levi’s once the word gets out. Like it or not, most folks care about this issue, and will stop buying Levi’s if they haven’t already.

My plumber went down to the Feed Store to pick up 2 pairs of Carharts he ordered and the Label inside has changed.

Made in Mexico.

He took them back.
