The newsroom is a sacred, magical place where unhinged partisanship never intrudes into actual reportage.
Except when it does.
The actual reference occurs on page three of the article:
After comparing the current war against extremists with the militarists of Japan and the communists in Korea and Vietnam in Wednesday's speech, he plans to discuss the war in Iraq in the context of its implications for the broader Middle East in a speech next Tuesday at the annual American Legion convention in Reno, Nev.
everybody ought to read “Prophet” by Peretti.
They are right about one thing — and they prove it. Iraq is exactly like Vietnam. To wit, the battles are over there but the war is here. We have met the quagmire and it is us.
They changed the headline to read:
Bush’s big gambit — likens Iraq to Viet Nam
I know I sent them an email earlier excoriating them for their ridiculous headline “Talking point” and I’m certain many other americans did as well.
The media SUCKS (can I say that and not get banned?)...I hope so! :-)
The bathhouse boy children in the “newsroom” just can’t help themselves.
Too bad. Bush and his people brought up “Vietnam”, they deserve to have it pushed back in their face. Such a blunder.
Korea? We acted in force on the border. Bush, weak on Syria and Iran who freely violate it and kill. No paybacks accept Powell/Rice every three months complaining about it and telling those countries to stop.
Japan? Island nation we forcefully occupied and forced a constitution upon. Iraq, a nation we weakly occupied so as not to scare the Bush/Rumsfeld military industrial complex supporters that more money may be put back into force levels from big ticket, high paying boondoggles like star wars part deux. Iraq, not an island but surrounded by nations that want to tear it apart in the open name of religion and ethnicity, but who really want its competitive oil production off line. Iraq, who still doesn’t have a constitution so everyone is waiting to see if we leave then grab the biggest piece of the oil pie, a greedy vain hope since their neighbors will keep them off line.
Bush mentioning Vietnam is icing on the cake.
Except on days ending in "Y".
And they're doing quite well from an economic and global commerce standpoint as a result. Took Germany quite a few years to get up and running after WWII as well. Iraq as a full functioning democratic state won't happen in a matter of a few years. But it WILL happen.
“But it WILL happen.”
Well, yeah, some day.
For PravdABDNC, the only Good American Soldier is a Dead American Soldier.

What a sad statement, but oh so true. The media in this country hate President Bush so much that they would rather see civilians and soldiers killed in mass quantities than support a victory in Iraq. They are in a disgraceful state and someday history will reflect their propaganda and their anti-americanism as the reason why the war in Iraq took longer to resolve than it should have. Their daily dissing of our soldiers, their mission, our president and their daily lies provided by their masters in the DNC have done nothing more than give aide and comfort to our enemy. Whoever coined the phrase “enemedia” when referring to the alphabets was spot on.
They are a disgrace to the nation. I’m surprised they continue to have any advertisers or sponsors.
The leftists don’t think that Iraq is like Vietnam — it’s not nearly as good. If we leave the people don’t get to live in a leftist utopia, like the Southeast Asians did.
I heard some of this on Rush today and right here I’m gonna admit something.
Once I was a pretty young liberal lass. Oh yeah. And I was passionate about stuff, number one being the war in Vietnam. I marched and carried candles in the rain.
For back then, when I still had estrogen flowing through my body, I had no other source for information but the Lamestream. Every night on my TV were pics of bodies returning home to Delaware, in their coffins, draped in American flags.
Plus, let’s not forget I had a sweet young husband fellow who was drafted, yes he was. Somehow he got out of the draft because of ingrown toenails or some sort but for a while there was much discussion of us moving to Canada, NOT something I wanted to do.
Just believe it was a tulmultuous time and now, NOW, after all these years, I learn that after we left Vietnam that MILLIONS died?
I simply cannot tell you how awful I feel.
I’m especially bitter to John F’en Carry who sat right in my congress and lied like a piker. He lied; millions died.
I feel awful because I didn’t know. I didn’t even know why the hell we were in Vietnam and at that time folks, that draft thing was a mighty big issue.
Even so, had I known, had I understood, had anyone taken the time to actually WIN that war, I would have been rooting for America...not marching against it.
And here the libs have kept the tragedy of Vietnam, Cambodia, the horror and deaths, a SECRET all this time.
It’s about time the President of the United States, notice how important this person is please, got up and TELL THE STORY.
No. Don’t tell me he does it all the time. I’ll grant that Bush is no great communicator but whatever he says HAS to be covered by the news. There are enough conservative talk radio folks around to cover him should the Lamestream refuse.
I think that back when I was a pretty young liberal lass that the President then didn’t do his job and I think that the President now, during this Iraq war, the president is again not doing his job.
The President during a war has to be out and about and recruiting Americans to his side. And he can’t allow lies to go on and on because it wouldn’t be polite to point out how much they lied.
Pubbies are notorious about exercising “politeness” to the point of self-destruction.
I also think that Rush Limbaugh gave Bush some pointers during that recent meeting they had.
Just a hunch.
There’s one huge difference between the VN war and the Iraq war - President Bush.
This President will not sit by and let the left lie about the war without challenge and I wish he would do more of it. Hopefully, there won’t be any John Kerrys testifying - lying - to a gullible Congress while GW is President.
The news media sucks, period. It has become nothing but a propaganda organ for Democrats and other leftists.
“The media SUCKS (can I say that and not get banned?)...I hope so! :-)”
Only if you say it whenever the occasion presents itself!

I’ll second that. Bravo.
You aren't alone in having been deceived. This little fact is ignored frequently by media and educators.
Pretty much the same story except I began reading Soltzenietzen and found out the Truth about my communist utopia. The truth about the Killing Fields of SE Asia have been out, but not connected to Kerry.
