And two years from now, when there is absolutely no change in the crime rate (or an increase, perhaps), they’ll repeal this, right?

Bad laws are never repealed. In fact, when bad laws prove useless (or worse), more laws are passed to “fix” them.

Beware when a politician says he will keep you safe and get illegal guns off the streets. He means that he will grab your legal gun and prevent you from protecting your life from an agressor.
To: ninenot
“Governor Doyle is proposing legislation that would prohibit the possession and purchase of a firearm for an individual who has been convicted of a misdemeanor that involved a firearm.”
So if they were to pass that CT law where you fail to report a firearm stolen its a misdemeanor they would end up taking away your rights entirely.
Would someone please show me one case where gun control worked? Please?!

This will never pass. It would make it illegal to sell a gun unless you are a dealer.
Someone who was 18-20 yrs old couldn’t even own a gun and that will never pass muster in the courts!

The corrolary to getting illegal guns off the street - is that not getting legal guns into our homes? It’s for the children, after all.

“This step prevents these individuals from traveling to a state where their background is not available to purchase a firearm, and then bringing it back to Wisconsin to commit a crime. “
Well, to buy a handgun they’d need to first establish residency in that state, then buy the gun. They left out that part by mistake I bet.

Governor Doyle has vetoed Wisconsin's Right To Carry law in the past. No one should be fooled. He is a anti-Second Amendment anti-gun zealot.

As Attorney General, Governor Doyle strongly opposed this legislation seeing the significant threat it posed to the safety of cities like Milwaukee...
C’mon Guv, come out and say it - urban blacks contribute a disproportionate share of gun crime. And in Wisconsin - Milwaukee is a code phrase for "where the blacks are".

Just like you left out the fact that you can buy a long gun in any adjacent State by mistake, right. ;-)
To: ninenot
Overturning the statewide pre-emption is a bad idea. It is ridiculous to expect anyone to know every single piece of gun legislation passed by every single city and county that you might pass through while traveling. One set of consistent laws across a state is reasonable. One set across all states that follows the 2nd amendment would be ideal.

And they can buy from a private party, too, in a legal or illegal transaction.
In this state, you must be a resident to buy any gun long or short, Florida too.
