Surprising. Aren’t the Icelanders mostly Swedish? From what I heard, they have two main occupations, getting drunk and getting in and out of bed.
Neither activity alone.
Of course we are talking about Iceland, where if people see a tree or something, it’s like seeing the pope!
I don’t think I’d say that in Iceland, unless you want Einar and Thorsson to to give you a lesson in human geography. I too have heard that Icelanders have a prodigious appetite for alcohol - kind of makes me pine for the fjords.
I think the people who colonized Iceland were mainly Norse (Norwegian) rather than Swedes, but some of them were Norse from the Western Isles of Scotland. I was told once that the Icelanders actually have a lot of Celtic ancestry (being descended from children the Norse men had by Hebridean women) but I don’t know if that is borne out by DNA studies.
