Bush denies superstate rumours

August 22, 2007

By Jon Ward - MONTEBELLO, Quebec — President Bush and the leaders of Canada and Mexico yesterday ridiculed the notion that their countries are conspiring to create a regional supergovernment similar to the European Union.

"I'm amused by the difference between what actually takes place in the meetings and by what some are trying to say takes place," said Mr. Bush, responding to concerns raised by conservative and liberal groups and some U.S. lawmakers.

"It's quite comical actually, to realize the difference between reality and what some people on TV are talking about."

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper joked that a superhighway rumored to be in the works linking the three countries could also be "interplanetary."

The two leaders and Mexican President Felipe Calderon spoke at a press conference here in a countryside resort, halfway between Ottawa and Montreal, to cap two days of meetings.

Mr. Bush said it is important for the U.S. to work with Canada and Mexico on facilitating trade while securing their borders, under the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), a series of negotiations started in 2005.

Mr. Bush said the charges of a plot to form a North American Union were "political scare tactics."

"You lay out a conspiracy and then force some people to try to prove it doesn't exist. That's just the way some people operate," Mr. Bush said.

Mr. Harper said the trade talks were far more mundane than many realize, citing a morning meeting with business leaders at which one CEO complained that "the rules for jelly bean contents are different in Canada and the United States."

When Bush starts name calling, you know he’s covering up something. I’ll never forget what he called his base during that amnesty bill fiasco.

No problem. Just publish the notes of the meetings.

This is more like Bush saying there's no unicorns...

First, those who spoke about the massive roadway from Mexico to Canada were derided. TPTB and their minions pooh-poohed the idea of the SSP, and a port in Mexico to bypass LA. The harmonization of regulatory and other laws was simply to nuts, they said.

It’s all coming to the fore now.

So, when El Presidente says it’s silly, all this talk about a NAU, one needs to be cynical.

How about OUR border, Mr. President. I don't care about their borders, but I would like ours sealed tightly.

Who said the following, and would you vote for HIM as President?

QUOTE:

“We live on a continent whose three countries possess the assets to make it the strongest, most prosperous and self-sufficient area on Earth. Within the borders of this North American continent are the food, resources, technology and undeveloped territory which, properly managed, could dramatically improve the quality of life of all its inhabitants.

It is no accident that this unmatched potential for progress and prosperity exists in three countries with such long-standing heritages of free government. A developing closeness among Canada, Mexico and the United States—a North American accord—would permit achievement of that potential in each country beyond that which I believe any of them—strong as they are—could accomplish in the absence of such cooperation. In fact, the key to our own future security may lie in both Mexico and Canada becoming much stronger countries than they are today.

No one can say at this point precisely what form future cooperation among our three countries will take. But if I am elected President, I would be willing to invite each of our neighbors to send a special representative to our government to sit in on high level planning sessions with us, as partners, mutually concerned about the future of our continent. First, I would immediately seek the views and ideas of Canadian and Mexican leaders on this issue, and work tirelessly with them to develop closer ties among our peoples. It is time we stopped thinking of our nearest neighbors as foreigners”.

But we COULD admit Canada as a state or states: provision for that was in the original Articles of Confederation.

For me, the really dishonest thing is the way that this entire process is back channeled and quasi governmental with -0- oversight.

The Congress is frozen out and the Dept of Commerce and private industries are basically doing all of the moving and shaking, a federal beareaucracy can change it’s rules to be more in line or accomodating with both Canadian or Mexican rules and there is nothing that can be done to change that except for offering “public commentary”.

For example, when a Spanish comapny buys a highway in Indiana, that is an intrastate matter, the fact that the highway will eventually link up with the Trans Texas Corridor is a private business matter but the rules for connecting the highways, and who can use it, are being run from the Dept of Commerce with -0- Congressional Oversight.

And the legal Authority for all of this to happen is not derived from Stature, but rather by Executive Orders, which are like binding law “if” they are not repealed by an action of the Congress to repeal an Executive Order.

It’s lawmaking in the shadows and I don’t care for it one darn bit.

Well, you’ll always have a home at KOS. It’s ate up with conspiracy nuts and Bush-haters. You should feel right at home. You guys even call him the same disparaging names. Match made in heaven.
