Animal control officers say the victim was covered in blood after the dogs attacked PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. - In what deputies describe as the worst mauling they've ever seen, two pit bulls entered a Wauna-area home via the pet door and attacked a woman in her bed.
Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Ed Troyer said a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier also entered the home in the 10600 block of 132nd St. Court NW through the dog door and the pit bulls attacked the terrier named Romeo.
The 59-year-old woman was in bed, in her room. Neighbors say she was sound asleep when the attack happened. She managed to get away, run to her car, lock herself in and call 911. Even after fighting off the dogs, she was in pretty bad shape.

Two pit bulls entered a Pierce County home and attacked a woman in her bed.
"Pretty much from head-to-toe, she was covered in blood," said Pierce County Animal Control officer Brian Bowman.
Troyer said firefighters locked the pit bulls in the house until deputies arrived. Officers had to use pepper spray and fight the dogs to get them into custody.
The woman was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where she was listed in satisfactory condition. The terrier was taken to an animal hospital, where he died Tuesday afternoon.
The pit bulls were taken to the Pierce County Humane Society, where they will remain until the case is resolved.
The pit bulls also attacked a Jack Russell terrier named Romeo.
Troyer said the owner of the pit bulls has been identified and lives on the same street as the victim. KING 5 went to the home, but nobody answered the door. Neighbors say they have had problems in the past with the two pit bulls running wild.
Information will be given to prosecutors, who will decide what, if any, charges will be filed against the owners. Animal control officers say they will recommend gross misdemeanor charges at the very least.
I can’t imagine being dead asleep and then having two pit bulls attacking you....
Or lock them in a small cell with a Great Dane named Bubba.
What about the jack russel terriers like the one named romeo in this story? Those are essentially miniature pit bulls in terms of personality.
I’m no gun person.
Thank God a dear friend of mine is and when I told him this dog was coming around here he loaned me a 45 pistol and taught me how to use it.
I always have appreciated the 2nd ammendment...and now even more so.
What are you talking about? Jacks are adorable (unless you're a cat or a fox).
I hate to tell you this, but the great dane would not live. The toughest dogs in the world in a pit fight are smallish pit bulls...40 to 50 lbs. Nothing beats them.
And vise versa.
We know much about the nature of a community’s business and political leadership by how many pit bulls it has. The more pit bulls in a community, the more feds should be lurking and looking around in the same area.
Yup. Just what we need, another friggin law. If you really like the governement running your life and protecting you, vote for Hillary Clinton.
Conservatives like to be left alone.
To people, yes.
To dogs, jacks are a menace. If you are attacked by a pitt, the only thing better than another pitt for defense is probably a jack russel. He will lose, but he is fast enough to buy you enough time to get a weapon or get away. He is also just as ornery and bull headed in a fight as a pitt.
Here we go again.
“Information will be given to prosecutors, who will decide what, if any, charges will be filed against the owners”
How about attempted murder?
It’s not that they are nuts. They are just stubborn and don’t feel pain. If you attack them, they attack back till dead or their master makes them stop.
So much bad craziness in this breed they’re not trainable as security/K9 dogs...
Don't worry about it! I normally handle pits with a 222, they never whimper.
I was crossing the street once and as I started to move across the street, I heard a noise behind me like a broken chain saw trying to cut wood and hit a nail. I turned and looked and there were two pitbulls chained in a yard with HEAVY chains that were GROWLING and lunging at me. That horrendous noise was the dogs.
They had got loose once and the police who responded to the call wouldn’t even get out of the car. Why they just didn’t shoot the dogs was beyond me. The owner finally had to get rid of them but they always scared me, a lot.
Any dogs running wild are eligible for shooting in my book. I’m certainly no fan of pitbulls, but feral dogs of any breed are a problem.
You have the advantage of me. I’ve only ever known one JRT. He liked to chase bunnies. And butterflies.
I’ve never heard of a JRT killing a child or invading a home as a part of a pack and attacking a homeowner.
But, I don’t get out much.
Even what used to be good dogs, like Cocker Spaniels, have been known to get nasty from too much inbreeding. I met a couple once and their owners had to warn everyone to not even try to touch them.
There is a reason why LEO’s and the military team with German Shepards.
Nice shootin’......
