Fred Thompson off to a bad start [Hmmmmmm, I'd say somebody else is]
ABC NEWS ^ | Jake Tapper

Moreover, when Thompson filed his disclosure form with the IRS, he revealed that $72,000 of the $3.4 million raised is to be used for the general election. Former FEC General Counsel, Larry Noble told the Washington Post "I think it's problematic. Clearly it's a red flag."

Being vile toward people, calling them names, and personal attacks is truely a leftie thing to do.

Well, considering you said this:

And by the less than intelligent responses on this thread I wouldn't trust any of you with any thing more dangerous than a fork with a cork on the end.

You just confirmed that you are a liberal. And a gun-grabbing one at that.

The mods are aware of that. They left the thread up just so we could have some fun.

Bravo—well said!!!
I think Romney is an excellent moderate Pubbie. Had to be to get elected Massachusetts’ governor. I also think he is a decent man and politician. And I absolutely hate the incessant MSM attacks on his religion. Heck, these are the same people, acting as Democrat Party proxies, that enthusiastically applaud abortion and actually think that felons and illegal aliens should vote—dead or alive.
Having said that, I think there is desperation among Romney supporters about the coming Thompson candidacy. Romney can comfortably compete with the first tier Pubbie presidential office seekers. Afterall, they are more or less moderates just like him. Thompson, however, represents a genuinely conservative voice among all the other moderate GOP primary candidates.
I must also say that I’m suspicious that some of these people, speaking on behalf of Romney here on FR, may really be Dem seminar people. Republicans, however much I may disagree with the candidates endorsed by the RNC, tend not to be that shrill and/or devoid of logic when engaging in debate.

Uh, I agree with you the the FEC campaign finance laws are a joke and the N.Y. Sun editorial pretty much does also. I never tried to “contradict” what you stated. I merely suggested we discuss the topic of the article, not the party who posted it.

Thompson does have to answer this complaint, and it is likely he will have to pay a fine. This certainly is not the most optimal way to start a campaign.

As for sour grapes? in the world of politics this type of political manuveur is small potatos and is quite expected.

Do you flatly deny the use of Temple names between husbands and their wives? Do you deny that this practice is the only way for a female to enter heaven? Do you deny that Mormons teach that men and only men can become “gods” through the LDS?

It’s important to acknowledge that the Lord our God is One, He is the Creator of all, that I AM is the reason we are, and that He reconciles male and female, slave and free, all nations and all sinners to Him if they believe in His Son. None of us can be gods, that’s the oldest lie. But we can all be His, by belief in that He gave His only Son, who lived a sinless life, died, arose on the 3rd day and lives today. There’s no place for secret knowledge, secret names, or making one of His children dependent on the will of another to enter heaven.

Oh for the love of God — all I asked for you to do was quit the sophomoric attacks on the person who posted the article and address the article.

You don’t agree that Thompson did anything wrong then discuss that.

I am not against Fred Thompson, so grow the hell up already.

The mormon cult is sleazy, multiple wives (I know that they supposedly don’t practice this anymore) secret wedding ceremonies, special underwear, new names for their wives, opression of women, celestial children, rule of other planets by men having sex with many celestial women. The founder of what I believe was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, healed the sick raised the dead, preached the gospel, died on a cross, rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the throne ready to come back and collect his body of believers and execute vengence on his enemies. His name is Jesus. The founder of the mormons got some special glasses and read from a tablet that the angel moron-ie delivered to him. That is how the cult that romney belongs to started. by joseph smith.

The law prohibits anyone who is “testing the waters” from hoarding the money for use during his actual campaign. Potential candidates also cannot refer to themselves as candidates, can’t run ads that publicize their intention to campaign or take steps to qualify for the ballot in a primary or caucus state.

According to a financial report filed with the Internal Revenue Service late last month, Thompson had raised nearly $3.5 million and had had spent $625,000. Thompson must raise money within federal contribution limits and must report it to the FEC once he becomes an official candidate.

“We’re following the law,” Thompson spokesman Jim Mills said in response to the complaint.

Under federal guidelines, the FEC will now give Thompson 15 days to respond to the complaint. Following Thompson’s response, election commissioners will decide whether to dismiss the case or investigate further.

Thompson, an actor on NBC’s “Law & Order” and former Republican Tennessee senator, has been hiring staff, opening a headquarters, holding fundraisers and promoting his credentials as a potential White House contender. But he has not said definitively that he’s a candidate for president. He is expected to make an announcement around Labor Day.

By not filing officially as a candidate, Thompson also benefits from continuing reruns of “Law & Order” without broadcasters encountering demands for equal time from his rivals

He should answer this immediately to put it to bed — better yet, he should just declare his candidacy.

Let’s see shall I believe a liberal blogger by the name of Lane that has some connections to, shall we say, “off-color” websites OR shall I trust the knowlege, expertise and actions of an ex-US Senator, and an accomplished lawyer with a growing staff of advisors and experts at his disposal??

Decisions, decisions.....

It is rather unlikely that Thompson will have to pay a fine. The way you worded your previous reply to me made it sounds as if you were contradicting me. I am sorry that I could not properly understand your syntax.

<The law prohibits anyone who is “testing the waters” from hoarding the money for use during his actual campaign.<

Not true, at least not as stated. He is allowed to raise funds for a general campaign but they have to be specifically earmarked thusly and be tracked seperately. Which they have been. He cannot use any such funds during the testing the waters phase or then he would be in violation.

Allegations are almost certainly false and Thompson’s finance director will make short work of them.

>>>>>Which was heralded by the Reagan-favored Heritage Foundation.

The Heritage Foundation has been a reliable source fotr conservatives over the years. But Reagan favored the Heritage Foundation 20 years ago. This is 2007. Times change and on this issue the Heritage Foundation is wrong. I've read a few conservative evaluations and analysis of RomneyCare. Most say RomneyCare is similar to HillaryCare. That is not a good comparison. Also, the vaunted Heritage Foundation took a $25,000 donation from Romney's charitable foundation. That is a conflict of interest. Maybe not a biggie, but a conflict of interest nonetheless.

I was told you decided to support Romney at this stage. Hard to believe. Romney has made an effort to sound like a conservative, but he is not a conservative. Without a doubt he's flip flopped on several key issues. RomneyCare is not an issue he's changed his tune on. Those would be abortion, guns and gays. Granted, Romney is better than Giuliani, but only marginally. I see Romney as a political centrist.

On healthcare:

"We insist that everybody who drives a car has insurance. And cars are a lot less expensive than people."
~~~ Governor Mitt Romney
Sounds familiar, in a way.
"We need a federal law that bans all assault weapons, and if in fact you do need a handgun you should be subjected to at least the same restrictions -- and really stronger ones -- that exist for driving an automobile."
~~~ Mayor Rudy Giuliani, March 2, 1997

Good luck to you.

In post #149 I addressed you to my post #147 in which I DID discuss the issues.

You then posted elsewhere (after those posts) that Fred will have to address the issue and possibly pay a fine. He may have to address the issue, but I see nowhere where he may have to pay a fine.

You're going by a newspaper editorial. I'm going by the PDF file the FEC has provided regarding the exact law this socialist is using to file his complaint. Are you going to say the FEC post is wrong and the newspaper is correct??????
