The drumbeat of bad economic news out of Michigan keeps pounding.
The Great Lakes State has lost jobs for six consecutive years, Michigans longest run of workplace shrinkages since the Great Depression. Automakers are laying off tens of thousands. Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is closing up shop in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo. The state ranks among the top three in the country for home foreclosures and mortgage delinquencies.
Analysts at Comerica Bank, which is moving its headquarters from Detroit to Dallas, say Michigan is stuck in a one-state recession.

Gee, this wouldn’t have anything to do with the Muzzies taking over, would it? It seems wherever they go, economic downturns follow.

Trust me, it’s VERY old news here in Michigan.
I’m looking nation-wide for a job now... anyone need a good computer geek? A local headhunter told me that our unemployment rate for IT people was 2% — everyone who needed a job in IT either left the state, or changed careers.
“Gee, this wouldnt have anything to do with the Muzzies taking over, would it? It seems wherever they go, economic downturns follow.”
The one thing that you cannot say about our Middle Eastern immigrants is that they are lazy. In fact, they come over here and work their butts off for that first generation. I’d love to bring a bunch more over here, in trade for some born here who can’t seem to find interest in work.
This cannot be pluasibly blamed on George W. Bush, and even local Democrats realize this. It’s a failure of their own Governor (Jennifer Granholm) and governance.
Clearly, Michigan’s socialist Canadian governor, needs to raise taxes, to attract jobs and stimulate job growth.

Well..of the two I'd have to say the govenor's idea makes more sense if it was done well but what's really needed is a Right to Work law.
“One-state recession hampers Michigan”
I’d love to slam Michigan, especially Detroit, Flint, and all the
other urban wastelands.
But this is just...SAD.
This is still a part of the USA (I hope).
Even with way-too-many Muslims and an effectively Canadian governor.
I look at old black-and-white photos of the River Rouge Ford complex,
contemplate the Mustang, Barracuda, Charger and other grand motor
cars birthed in Michigan.
All the harder-than-nails trucks and armaments that won WWII, Korea
and held the line during The Cold War.
And what I hear/see of Michigan today almost makes me weep.
Mike
I don't understand why William Clay Ford or any of the other auto execs never run for Governor.
More like four years of our favorite Canadian immigrant, Heronner the Gov. Sadly, we (collectively) didn’t see fit to fire her last November when we had the chance. We expect to continue this way until 2010.
The last one who can afford to leave Michigan, please leave the lights on for we who must endure.
We actually tried helping out the Great Lake State a little by taking our vacation there. Visited relatives in K-Zoo, G-Rap, the Soo (sounds like a hip-hop tour ;-) among touring other sights. It's a beautiful state, but I'm thankful my parents left MI for AZ when I was a kid.
(I have to say I was tempted to purchase some property in the U.P. It seems undervalued.)
In my opinion, our downward slide began under Carter and has only been halted a couple of times.
“This cannot be pluasibly blamed on George W. Bush, and even local Democrats realize this. Its a failure of their own Governor (Jennifer Granholm) and governance.”
Bullshirt.
You guys know me by now, and Jen Granholm doesn’t like it when she does a local radio callin show. Granholm can’t lead worth a dang.
However, Engler was in charge for 12 of the past 16 years. The GOP held both houses for most, if not all, of that period. It’s equally true that the GOP raised the amount of spending in any way you measure it. That worked so long as the auto industry was booming, but when things got soft, and the tobacco money was gone, things became a mess.
I’m sorry, but when you have the GOP Speaker of the House trying to get the State to buy notebook computers for every 6th grader — and that plan was passed by both GOP-controlled houses! — then the Dems can’t be said to be the sole problem. When you have the GOP trying to say they’re not having tax increases, when in fact they’re raising fines and fees to an unreasonable point in order to increase revenues, we’ve got a problem.
I’m sorry gang — Engler, Speaker Johnson, et al all let us down. They said they were in favor of small government, but squandered at least a dozen years when they could’ve downsized it.
Pardon me, did you just say you want to raise taxes to attract business to MI?
Been thinking of purchasing a summer place in the Upper. Guess I’ll rethink that for now.
Don’t need to buy a property there and have it taxed to death to pay for Detroit.
“I don’t understand why William Clay Ford or any of the other auto execs never run for Governor.”
Because he’d run Michigan like he runs the Detroit Lions.
I don't think high taxes is what makes Michigan a failure.
Speaking of Muslims...
Our brain-dead Canadian governor (currently overseas seeking jobs) just appointed a Muslim to head our state’s Department of Human Services.
Let’s see...a Muslim is going to be in charge of a huge governmental department comprised mostly of women employees, that service poor mothers and dole out food stamps.
Did I mention he’s also a HUGE democratic party player in the state?
