AUSTIN — A political activist dedicated to independent candidates and third-party tickets has launched a new Internet site dedicated to impeaching Gov. Rick Perry.
Linda Curtis, founder of Independent Texans, launched the site to call on the Legislature to draft articles of impeachment against Perry in 2009.
Curtis noted that Texas does not have the right of recall, so petitioning the Legislature to impeach the governor is the only answer when citizens are unhappy.
When asked about the new Impeach Perry Web site, Perry spokesman Robert Black responded by saying: "Free speech is a wonderful thing."
Curtis said the two main reasons for seeking Perry's impeachment is his continuing push for the Trans-Texas Corridor toll road from Laredo to Oklahoma despite citizen opposition and his veto of $154 million in funds for junior colleges.
Other reasons listed by Curtis include the passage of the new state franchise tax that taxes some business partnerships for the first time; his mandate that sixth-grade girls be vaccinated against HPV (a mandate overturned by the Legislature); and the creation of the Residential Construction Commission, which she sees as protection for builders who do shoddy construction.

Curtis noted the last Texas governor to be impeached was James "Pa" Ferguson in 1917 after he vetoed the budget for the University of Texas.
"We intend to take this campaign out across the state, to all political camps, and to neuter this administration," Curtis said.
"Whether or not that leads to Perry's impeachment will be up to the Legislature. Let's see if history does indeed repeat itself."

Bully for Perry for vetoing some govt spending.
The TTC is on life support and his TxDOT minions have already been neutered by the last session.
This is pointless go-nowhere political whining. If Perry was so bad he would have been un-elected last Nov. Democracy does work. Perry got re-elected despite the TTC issue, which he deserved to be dumped on big-time, because the Dems are just horrible on so many other issues.
Just to annoy this person, I’ll go head off to a fundraiser where Perry is the speaker.

I’m very opposed to the Trans TX Corridor-—but——Perry signed into law the Castle Doctrine law, so I’ll stand behind him because of that.
Stand by your man all you want but he needs to go. During Perry recent campaign he criticized Bush on immigration. Strangely he was in agreement with Bush prior to re-election. Hours after he was elected the border cameras disappeared. While some call it effective campaign strategy I call it lying. Today Perry is in step with Bush on immigration saying "The only thing a wall would possibly accomplish is to help the ladder business."
Impeach someone because they disagree with him. That’s a novel concept. Must have learned it from Henry Gonzalez.
It was 39 percent for Perry. The large 61 percent majority to opposed him was comically divided into four camps, counting the Libertarian nominee.
I'll disagree with that. The legislature did almost nothing to rein in the DOT. It was all for show.
I believe Perry got over 39%, close to 40%, in that 4 man, er, person, race.
As a Texan, who has voted for Perry in every election he ran, I’m going to the website and work for his impeachment. He is a disgrace to his alma mater, Texas A&M, and to the people of Texas.
The guy is an empty suit. But, the Dems never run anyone but a token candidate against him because Texas is such a Red State.
Perry signed into law the Castle Doctrine law.
The Castle Doctrine law should have never been required. The law forcing a person to retreat from an attacker in their own home was a sign of bad government.
IMO-Perry is a stuffed shirt.
I live in Austin Texas. I know the score exactly.
Some folks whine about a TTC that so far hasnt even been built, yet ignore the big-spending lege that ramped up spending by double digits.
I suggest its the TTC obsessed who dont know *all* of whats going on here in Austin. Pay close attention, you are getting ripped off by tax-and-spending types and dont even know it.
