My car died the other day. And it was inert.

one tablespoon of neutron star weighs hundreds of millions of tons.Weight is meaningless in space. Mass is a more accurate term.

Gravity is the weakest force, but it is not the weak force which is a nuclear force and actually strong but not as strong as the strong force. But, get enough neutrons together and they will be compressed into this neutron star format by their own gravity. Physicists have a problem naming things and avoid classes such as English literature.

Sheesh, thanks RightWhale. I am going to have to add some astrophysics books to my list.
Any suggestions that explain things in a way somebody with a modicum of physics and even less astronomy can understand?
Karl Sagan popularized your field, but I would appreciate a reference to an author or title that captures the majesty without skimping on the science. Tall order, I know.

So it gets harder to determine distance the farther out an object?

Thanks Freeport. Interesting the range of expertise on this forum. Astrophysicists and Michele Malkin.
