Rove’s gift basket for the Seattle Times

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 20, 2007 02:09 PM
Remember the fair, objective journalists at the Seattle Times who cheered Karl Rove’s resignation? Via the Media Blog and HA Headlines, here’s news in Howard Kurtz’s WaPo column of Rove’s farewell gift:

In an embarrassment to the industry, some staffers at a Seattle Times news meeting cheered when Rove’s resignation was announced. To his credit, Editor David Boardman made the incident public and warned that staff meetings should not “evolve into a liberal latte klatch.” Rove responded by sending a basket of cookies to the newsroom, with a note saying “my wife shares in your enthusiasm.”

I think a basket of pacifiers would have been more appropriate. How about you?

She’s from a country of 86+ million people, so I’m guessing there’s more where she came from: http://www.livinginthephilippines.com

My letter to the Seattle Times’ Nancy Bruner, which was autoreponded with her subordinate’s email

cgumm@seattletimes.com

(And if posting a seattletimes email address gets me banned, so be it.)

Dear Ms. Bruner:

I am surprised to learn that someone at your newspaper actually admitted that its newsroom staff erupted in cheers in learning that Karl Rove is, after over a decade of service, leaving the Administration.

Apparently, despite a lengthy investigation by a prosecutor — which found no wrongdoing, he leaves with no criminal charges filed, his good name, and having advanced his agenda.

Will your newspaper’s hiring bias be examined?

Will your newspaper’s continuing decline in readership be considered in light of your paper’s bias?

According to Business Journal articles from 2005 and 2006, your paper’s readership is in continued decline.

Is there a connection?

Cordially,

bajabaja

A dozen dead roses would have been more appropriate.

The Times is nearly giving out free copies now, trolling for Greater Fools.

If you don’t mind losing a couple bucks, take a trial subscription, then cancel the next day. You get to rail on their subscription department in the process.

It’s even better when a “retention specialist” calls you a couple of days later. Said specialist is horse-trained to refute arguments like bias (”getting the paper means you can keep an eye on it!”), using the Internet (”but you can’t take the Internet with you!”), etc. etc.

They’re in deep macaca.

Thanks for the suggestion (and your service) Second Division, but I am in Mexico with a Latina quien es muy bonita. (MM is bonita tambien.)

The Arellano story is, of course, top news here. Despite continuous coverage, the reporting leaves out several facts that could be reported given the air time. As a “mixed couple” we seem to get lots of stares (and a snarl or two) when we go out to dinner in Mexico — probably in part do to the political relationship between our native countries. But I am having fun, and so I nod and smile back.

Nice letter, thank you for writing and posting it.

Re being banned over such a post, let's hope that such overreaction does not exist here.

Nah, I don’t think publishing a professional e-mail addy is a bannable offense.

Saying something nice about anyone but Senator Thompson and Congressman Hunter is, though. Stay safe out there.

Island Jeff, the LA Times retention specialists have been at it for over a *decade* with my elderly mom. I got moderately mad when they did not remove her from their call list and kept calling over several months.

I realize the poor worker on the phone was not the problem, and advised her she should find a job with a ship that wasn’t taking on water.

I will keep this post advised of any response from the ST, and you in particular. You seem to share my glee.

My experience with BDS types leads me to think rather than eat the cookies, they will start screaming and jumping up and down on them.

It’s amazing to watch, I’ve seen it. The names Bush or Rove will transform a normal looking person into someone that starts raising their voice, turns red, and starts sputtering with fury because they can’t get their hateful rants out fast enough.

If it’s any consolation, the Times, by virtue of some twisted concept of saving the buggywhip industry, is forced to share operations with the People’s Izvestia, aka Post-Intelligencer (misnamed if there ever was such a thing), which is just a joke even the Latte Liberal Leadership of this town laughs at it.

The LA Times and the PI are about the same. The Seattle Times’ fever is about half a degree lower.

Take ‘em out behind the barn. Markets work.

they will start screaming and jumping up and down on them.

Not all un-institutionalized yet clinically-insane people are pushing shopping carts around bad parts of town and exhibiting untreated, festering sores..

Some are breathtakingly overpaid and spend their days in office cubicles drinking way too much coffee and worrying about how to force a hard-Left spin on the next news item while maintaining a condescending, arrogant tone.
