Iran hangs 30 over 'US plots'
Sunday Observer/Guardian (UK) ^ | 8/19/2007 | Robin Tait

Iran has hanged up to 30 people in the past month amid a clampdown prompted by alleged US-backed plots to topple the regime, The Observer can reveal.

Many executions have been carried out in public in an apparent bid to create a climate of intimidation while sending out uncompromising signals to the West. Opposition sources say at least three of the dead were political activists, contradicting government insistence that it is targeting 'thugs' and dangerous criminals. The executions have coincided with a crackdown on student activists and academics accused of trying to foment a 'soft revolution' with US support.

The most high-profile recent executions involved Majid Kavousifar, 28, and his nephew, Hossein Kavousifar, 24, hanged for the murder of a hardline judge, Hassan Moghaddas, a man notorious for jailing political dissidents. They were hanged from cranes and hoisted high above one of Tehran's busiest thoroughfares.

The spectacle, the first public executions in Tehran for five years, took place outside the judiciary department headquarters where Moghaddas was murdered. But the location, near many office blocks and the Australian and Japanese embassies, meant they were seen by many middle-class Iranians who would not normally witness such events.

I’m surprised this made the news at all. Where are the apologists? Isn’t it time for some article about Iran and how this regime is misunderstood?

Isn't that what Ron Paul advocates?

CNN’s own Iranian, Christiane Amanpour will be along shortly......to help us to “understand”.

Don’t worry, the Beast will be rushing over there as soon as she’s elected (despite what she says) to give him a big hug. She loves to give Jihadist dictators a BIG hug!

Osamabama will be there too, shining the dictator’s shoes. He might also have time to shine the shoes of Ahmadinejad.

Rush said today that he loves how Edwards refuses to talk to Fox News but wants to talk to Amajihadnut.

The questions this brings to my mind are; how many were intimidated by this, how many were converted to gov/mullah supporters and how many had their resolve hardened?

I'm betting this doesn't work in their favor.

Nothing will destroy the Islamic regime short of military action. A tyranny relying on brutality, executions and intimidation cannot be changed through "internal dissent", "sanctions" or "negotiations".

Majid Kavousifar, 28, and his nephew, Hossein Kavousifar, 24, hanged for the murder of a hardline judge, Hassan Moghaddas, a man notorious for jailing political dissidents.

If one tries to find true Martyrdom in the Islamic world, he has found it.

Ron Paul is great in that he’s an obstructionist for the centralist thinker in Washington. Anything that expands federal powers, controls, regulations, taxes etc he will be against. He’s about state rights and individual liberties/freedom. Great stuff, but at a national level and in international politics/policies some of his views are let’s just call them, “odd.”

What would qualify as "apostasy" which according to the article can get one executed in Iran?

It seems that anything could or would qualify as "apostasy", so basically anyone can be executed at any time by those in power for no reason whatsoever.

All of the liberals would tell us that they would stand against Hitler if he were alive today, but where are they here on this except for accusing "neocons" of "war mongering" with Iran?

Now if every Iranian dissident had a gun...
Remember the people living in totalitarian system anywhere anytime whent the gun-grabbers want you to disarm. The first thing the despots do is disarming the citizens.

"Edwards refuses to talk to Fox News but wants to talk to Amajihadnut"

It's not surprise, really - our domestic leftists hate anyone here they view as the least bit 'conservative' -- they hate us with such a white-hot passion that they can't think straight. But give them a chance to suck up to commie thugs or Islamo-fascists and they jump all over themselves trying to accommodate. To the political left Ahmawhackjob is just a misunderstood nice guy who likes to execute gays, Jews, Americans, and anyone else who does not conform to Islamo-whackjob precepts. Let his regime have nuclear weapons and then see how well we can 'talk' to them....
