California has more than 36 million residents and is expected by some projections to have 60 million by 2050. People keep moving here, and yet the state government is doing everything it can to make it harder to build the homes necessary to house everyone. It's already incredibly costly and difficult to get government approvals to build housing developments, as cities micromanage pretty much everything a builder does. People will need to live somewhere. If other counties embrace Marin's overall approach toward development, the newcomers will have nowhere to live even as Marin officials bask in their moral superiority. ...
Smug state officials might believe that Marin County is successfully battling global warming and urban sprawl, but these no-growth policies simply are pushing sprawl and all the global-warming-inducing development toward the outer reaches of the Bay Area. Not only was I stuck in excruciating traffic as I drove on the inadequate freeway toward Santa Rosa, but I faced even worse traffic far east into the Central Valley. It took more than two hours to drive from Oakland to the outskirts of Modesto, as frustrated Bay Area residents endure 70-mile or so commutes so that they can buy a house in the few areas where housing construction is still encouraged.
Is this what we want statewide? Apparently, that's what legislative Democrats and Jerry Brown want. They think they are fighting global warming, but these good "help the poor" liberals really are fighting those lower- and middle-income Californians who unlike the wealthy folks in Marin County are still struggling to attain their piece of the American Dream.

If there are no homes then the population won’t ‘double’. If California continues to drive business away there also won’t be any jobs. No homes + no jobs = no people and no taxes. No taxes = no government. Hey by getting rid of the govt we just fixed the problem.
Of course the econuts are trying to stop building everywhere. I’m a general contractor in the Fl Keys...here they are trying to turn the whole county into a National Park to stop us. Here’s the article I posted several days ago:

I heard they exploded the underground blast
They say its gonna happen - gonna happen at last

They tell me the faultline runs right through here

Atlantis will rise, Sunset Boulevard will fall
Where the beach used to be won’t be nothing at all

Quess they don’t want Marin to be another Orange county. If you want to live in the nicer areas you’re going to have to pay. Ask Boxer and Savage.

The dropping property values will also help with taxes.
Things will not change until enough illegals move into the tree huggers neighborhoods.
Where are their illegal alien help gonna live?
Liberals are the “elite” you know. They must insulate themselves from the “Little People”. They must never be subjected to their subjects.

That being said, does CA REALLY want 60M residents? Its pretty crowded right now. At some point, growth for the sake of growth decreases everybody’s quality of life. CA has its share of empty space (like the Mojave desert and Big Sur), but few want to live there. I am a fan of capitalism, but too many businesses want growth at any cost.
The new global warming line is just another slow growth excuse. Marin county, Monterrey county, etc. have been slow on growth for years. Do you want to see the population of the most populace state double? How much of the population are illegals? There are lots of places only people with lots of money can live. Lots of houses on the market now, but maybe not in Marin. I’m not defending Jerry Brown.
Nah, most of the restrictions are about restricting the supply of housing in order to keep the prices high. For the most part, the strategy has worked outstandingly well.
California is a joke, but most people don’t see the punchline.
We looked at property north of Napa Valley last fall.
A 50 acre goat humping site infested with manzanita, scorpions and liberals was selling for $3.5 million. You were limited by government and the fascist bureaucracy to sub-dividing the parcel by no less than 12 acres. And only one home could be built on each 12 acre parcel.
Seig heil!
Another tiny parcel was presented by the realtors in square feet to make it seem larger.
The entire property mass in CA is run by goosestepping socialists who are condemning CA citizens to a Marxist utopia that will benefit the few and impoverish the many.
The entire state apparatus should be forced to defend itself in a federal RICO suit for theft of individual liberties.
Ah, liberals. “Do as I say, not as I do.” A group of people who claim to care about humanity have devolved into a bunch of elitists.
Liberals, having become both elitist and authoritarian, will probably have their opinions dismissed by the rest of the population.
I’ve lived in a few different areas in California and the reason are not all the same. Some don’t want change and some are pro development. It should be up to the local community to decide, not the state.
