The presidential election is still over a year away, and Republican approval ratings are lower than ever with the President's approval rating averaging 32.9%, but the latest polls are already beginning to show Giuliani beating Hillary in hypothetical matchups in the general presidential election. According to key campaign website realclearpolitics.com, two out of the five most recent major polls have Giuliani beating Hillary, and one has Fred Thompson beating Hillary. A Battleground poll taken in the middle of July shows Giuliani beating Hillary by 6 points, and a Rasmussen poll taken at the end of July has Giuliani winning by 1 point. Another Rasmussen poll shows Thompson beating Hillary by 1 point. Pundits like Dick Morris have been saying all along that Hillary can't win because her negatives are too high - around 44% in most polls.
In hypothetical matchups between Obama and Giuliani, Obama fares better than Hillary, with Giuliani losing every hypothetical except for one tie. However, there are fewer and fewer people who believe Obama can beat Hillary in the Democrat primary, and he's trailing Hillary by double digits in every poll. A recent Newsweek poll shows him trailing by 21 points. Obama's inexperienced gaffes the last couple of weeks over foreign policy set him back considerably; for the Democrat party machine, it's hard to get excited about a candidate who makes you look stupid for supporting him. Plus any Democrat would have a difficult time fighting the Bill Factor - Bill Clinton was the last most powerful man in the world, and one of the best-loved Democrats; with Bill campaigning for Hillary and working everyone from the base to the wealthy contributors, any Democrat is going to have a difficult time counteracting that. Obama is a nice distraction from the Clinton political machine because he's a fresh-faced opposite of Hillary, but he's not a realistic solid candidate; Democrats just have to picture him debating the quick and brilliant Rudy Giuliani to realize he'd lose big in a general election.
If the momentum continues this way, we're headed for a Giuliani-Hillary presidential race, and certain victory for Republicans because of Hillary's high negatives. Republicans who revere Ronald Reagan remember the more recent Clinton years even better, and will never forget Whitewater, Hillarycare, Monica Lewinsky, and the most corrupt administration ever.
"Pundits like Dick Morris have been saying all along ..."
That's what is depressing - twelve more months of this crap...
Wait until early next month when Fred Thompson announces! Money will flow into his campaign coffers and the polls will spike even higher, IMO.
I'm already thinking about taking a month-long vacation ending the day after election day '08. I'd love to be away from this stuff until I can just turn on the news and find out who won.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but this stuff no longer interests me, the horse race, I mean. I'm more concerned with everything BUT the crap the media seem most interested in.
That is EXACTLY how we lose.
Is there any poll which shows the percentage of women who will vote for The Hildabeast?
I think that Fred Thompson will get a spike in the polls when he announces that will dissipate over a couple of weeks and we'll be right back where we are now. When the campaign begins in earnest, Giuliani and Thompson will be the top two candidates. The Ron Paul supporters will be trumpeting a third place finish in the Mineral County Bauxite Festival Days straw poll and how that indicates a tide wave of coming support.
These poll results are good, but what isn’t reflected is the fact that prez elections are not by popular vote, but by electoral votes. We need to win whole states. This is a good start.
They have pissed it all away. He is waiting until the summer season of LA Law is over. FRED knows it’s going to be difficult. He gets my vote.
I just checked the domain name www.ihatehillary.com.
It lists “ejaculation control” as a prime link.
Makes sense to me.
I know how you feel. It feels like it’s not about the nation anymore, with the MSM, it’s a game to them. And to the politicians. I’ll be voting of course, but I don’t have much faith in any of them right now. It doesn’t seem like any of them are about the nation and the country, just winning the position.
Ron Paul already won the Harrison County Future Farmers of America pig calling, straw poll and bake-off (Mrs. Paul’s apricot tarts took Honorable Mention).
“The Ron Paul supporters will be trumpeting a third place finish in the Mineral County Bauxite Festival Days straw poll and how that indicates a tide wave of coming support.”
Made me laugh my A** off PING!!!!
Thanks
“Democrats just have to picture him debating the quick and brilliant Rudy Giuliani to realize he’d lose big in a general election.”
I don’t think so. Democrats will vote for Hillary regardless of how she does in debates, and frankly I don’t think Rudy will be as impressive as lauded. He will come across as rude and arrogant. That won’t sell.
The Republican party can’t win with Guilani. It needs someone else with more impecable conservative credentials to shore up the conservative base of the party. I have voted for every Republican nominee since Gerald Ford ran against Jimmy Carter (I was only enthusiastic about Reagan, and both Bush candidcies), but I did vote for my parties nominee. I WILL NOT EVER VOTE FOR RUDY....NEVER.
I don’t think folks take statements like mine in ernest, but I won’t back down. I cannot support Guilani, even if it means a Clinton victory.
Either the party puts someone resembling a conservative (on Abortion, Homosexuality, and the 2nd Ammendment) or they won’t get my vote. I will leave that portion of the ballot blank or vote for a third party candidate if conservative by my tests.
Personnally I would like the see Huckabee, Hunter, or Thompson to a lesser degree (I think he is too friendly towards homosexuals). Heck, I am at the point where I would like to see Gingrich jump in the fray. Just no Rudy the homophilic, infanticidal, gun grabber.
Mrs. Paul makes fish sticks, or as my grand daughter and I call them....stish ficks.
