John McCain Cites Immigration Stance for Drop in Republican Primary Polls
Sunday , August 19, 2007
AP
WASHINGTON Sen. John McCain said Sunday his support for immigration changes hurt his presidential candidacy because people were not convinced that it would secure the border.
"The immigration issue has caused me some difficulties with our base," the Arizona Republican said.
The failed immigration bill supported by McCain included border security measures and a guest worker program and would have legalized many of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S.
McCain has since endorsed a plan that would tighten the borders, but not include a guest worker provision.
But he said his campaign, which has been weakened by multiple resignations and poor fundraising, is regaining its footing.
"We are back on town hall meetings, and enthusiasm is there. And we're going to be just fine in my campaign," he said. "Every campaign has its ups and downs."

McCain’s base always was cross-over RATS in primaries that were trying to get a dog that wont hunt nominated.
Just like the other two of the Three Stooges, its RATS trying to push them off on Republicans because they know none of them has a chance in the general election.
What a dumb sonofabitch.
Understatement of the year
What/who is your base, McCain? I cant remember.
Guess he figured blaming his drop on Iraq wasn’t working so he would take a stab at something else.
He is either out of touch or dumb as a doorknob.
Since he found out he can’t be President without us. Why do you think the other candidates have started pandering to us. Problem is they just can’t stop pandering to illegals at the same time.
said to McCain, of course, not Sub-Driver)
I hate to tell you folks but Guliani is an open borders advocate. He has spent alot of time in Mexico City with Mexican officials. The criteria for voting for president should be. Will you build a 2,000 mile border fence? Will you beging to deport illegals? Will you fine employers who hire illegals?
...he’s just now figuring this out? No wonder the Left loves him...
He's a quick study. I wonder what tipped him off?

I’m not posting a real comment.
That sucker would get banned.
DUH John. How holier than thou you must think you are if you are just now coming to that conclusion. The people spoke and let their voices be heard. Where were YOU????? That however was the straw that broke the camel’s back more or less anyway. The pubbies are weak. Always backing down and apologizing or cow towing when someone says they should RESIGN. Pooey John, your campaign was weakened by your own words and actions!!!!
“McCain has since endorsed a plan that would tighten the borders,

To steal from Einstein:
“The people who caused the problem are usually not the ones that
can fix it.”
Thus it’s a good time to think about what you’re going to do at the
end of this term. In terms of retirement.
It’s sort of comforting to know that I’m not any more dense than a
US Senator.
The MSM was never going to say it, so I’m glad at least McCain understands.
There is no recant here about amnesty for those 12 million illegals that we all know number higher than 12M. He still has his head buried in the sand.
I am glad someone else remembers "his honor"! Funny how NO ONE in the press has mentioned it. LOL
