KINGFISHER,OK - Flooding is forcing evacuations of homes this morning in Kingfisher, said City Manager Richard Reynolds.
Parts of the north, east and west sides of Kingfisher have homes threatened by flood waters, Reynolds said about 8:40 p.m. Sunday.
The rain is continuing to cause flooding as creeks and rivers are swollen in the area. Streets and roads in Canadian County are also under water, said Jerry Smith, Canadian County Emergency Management Director. Smith said State Highway 66 is closed at Banner Road a mile east of ElReno and Interstate 40 east of El Reno is closed due to flooding of Six Mile Creek that is going over the interstate, Smith said.
Mustang Road and SW 15 in the west Oklahoma City and Yukon, Mustang area are also under water. Several homes were also evacuated in Union City about 4 a.m., he said. Some rescues of motorists were also reported, Smith said. U.S. 81 and SH 182 was closed during the morning, he said.
About 4 a.m. other homes at Cedar Lake in the southwest part of the county was threatened. Homes were evacuated near Methodist Road and north of State Highway 37.
An emergency shelter was set up at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Reno at the corner of Sunset Road and Evans Street.
Erin is acting like somewhat like TS Alison - both maintained a tropical closed circulation days and days after going inland. Erin even seems to be getting stronger over the last day.
Go Sooners!
Even in death...........
I am very sorry for your loss.
FOX was showing a family on a rooftop when an airboat pulled up to them....are those common in OK; and if so, why?
Thanks, but I can smile when I think of what the cemetary workers might be hearing.
FNC has been showing helicopter rescues. My heart stopped when a lady fell from the chopper, back into the murkey water. This is unbelievable.
(Jamaica is supposed to get 20 inches with hurricane Dean....)
We have 11 electric poles down outside of town and we might get electricity by midnight, tonight.
The destruction in Kingfisher looks horrendous.
So many houses are flooded even in west central Oklahoma.

Re: airboats — I wouldn’t say they are common but those that have them use them to navigate rivers/streams that have shifting channels of unknown draft or minimally submerged obstructions.
My husband’s brother lives in the Mustang area. Their storm cellar flooded. Good thing that there wasn’t a tornado in sight.
Its trapped on the back side of a high pressure center sucking every last drop of moisture out of Tennessee soil.
We had rain in Memphis yesterday, for the first time in several weeks. Not enough to do much good though.
