DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) -- This is the home of Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, of Boot Hill and the Long Branch Saloon, of cattle drives, buffalo hunters and the romance of the American West.

But that's the Dodge City of yesteryear.

ADVERTISEMENT Today, downtown has Mexican restaurants and stores more reminiscent of shops south of the border than Main Street Kansas. The city of 25,176 even has a new nickname: "Little Mexico."

Signs advertising "Envios a Mexico" -- retail outlets where workers send hard-earned wages back home to Mexico and other countries -- hang outside many Dodge City stores. Houses occasionally fly Mexican flags, whipped hard by the prairie winds.snip

"If these people can get past the gauntlet of the border, we welcome them here with open arms," said Ford County Sheriff Dean Bush, Dodge City's modern-day counterpart to Wyatt Earp.

But many of his fellow citizens seem lost. Randy Ford and his wife, Betty, have lived in Dodge City for 35 years. They no longer attend the city's Independence Day events. They can't understand what the singers -- Spanish crooners singing Latin favorites -- are saying.

"We don't go anymore because we don't want to be Mexican," he said. "We want to be American."

Somehow I don't think this would have been Wyatt Earp's attitude....especially U.S. Marshal Wyatt Earp.

Are you drunk or did the democrats rearrange all the keys on your keyboard?

You meant: None of that matters anymore. Everyone for himself and that's it.

Low-buck labor; to hell with American Citizens....corporate greed, and paying off the politicians to leave the illegals pour over the border un-contested.

What a great country (for illegals, that is)

That’s sickening. A sheriff openly encouraging criminal behavior. He ought to be behind bars. This guy isn’t like Earp, but more like Sheriff Johnny Behan of Tombstone !

No kidding....
You should check out Fort Worth Texas.
A “sanctuary city” for illegals.
Makes a person real proud to pay school and county taxes to support illegals.
There’s the working class that pays taxes, and the freeloading illegals that destroy the fabric of American society..

Last year my sister and I were planning a vacation to Dodge City and vicinity (intending to learn about about our country’s western heritage and such). But, after reading up and learning how the place had been converted into an outpost of Mexico, we changed our plans.

Actually Wyatt Earp was a deputy Town Marshall. Bat Masterson was Ford County Sheriff.

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.
