Would a public school's zero-violence rule include Wiley Drake's call for prayer for the deaths of his opponents?Imprecations and implications.
Orange County Pastor Wiley Drake was minding his own business when two enemies of God came after him last week. That's how secular humanists operate, you know -- they're just looking for ways to undercut people doing the Lord's work.
At least, that's how Drake sees things. Faced with that, the 63-year-old Buena Park Baptist had limited options. First, he says, he tried to resolve things with them privately, as Matthew 18:15 directs.
However, when Americans United for Separation of Church and State rebuffed him, Drake had other choices: He either could turn the other cheek, or he could ask his fellow Christians to pray for the demise of Joe Conn and Jeremy Leaming, two of the organization's officials.
With God speaking to him, Drake chose the latter course, exhorting his supporters to "begin our imprecatory prayer," and directing them to Psalms 109.
Under the heading "How To Pray," Drake quoted, verse by verse, the imprecations.
The temptation is to liken Drake's action to the fatwa ordered by the Iranian ayatollah in 1989 against author Salman Rushdie, whose "Satanic Verses" was deemed a blasphemy against Islam.
Obviously, a significant difference is that the ayatollah called for someone to kill Rushdie, while Drake is simply asking for prayer that would encourage God to handle things as he saw fit. Still, two of the verses in the 109th Psalm suggest physical harm when speaking of the enemy: "Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."

...I actually like Wiley Drake.
Wiley Drake is no ayatollah...

Wiley Drake is a Freeper.
Likewise the Psalm !
The people who think God talks to them are the last people who should be listened to.
Bepretzeling this incident into a fantasy of teaching smiting in public schools is an awesome, wildly trivial achievement.
There is a whole lot of this weekend 2nd string BS up on the main page right now. Frankly, I can skip this little snit fit and still come out depressed...
I thought smiting meant to kill not harmless chanting.
The solution is to shut down the government schools.
Governments never were, are not now, and never can be religiously neutral. It is axiomatic.
No matter what position the government schools take, they will uphold the religious beliefs of some and destroy those of others. This is axiomatic.
It is for this reason that the fights over government school policies and curriculum are so bitter. One side will win and the other will lose because there is NO middle ground. One side wins the hearts and minds of the next generation of voters and the other side does not. This too is axiomatic.
1) Remove your children from government schools immediately.
2) Work with your neighbors to elect representatives dedicated to closing these government school cesspools down.
The foe should always be sin and not a sinner.......
I like Ephesians 6:11-18
11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
Vouchers and charter schools. Works for me.
I think all should pray for the demise or enlightenment of the ignorant which ever is fitting. The separation of church and state movement is a farce based on lies. Religion has always been an integral part of the American way of life those who deny that are fools and liars. There is no middle ground.
One may believe that it is better to eliminate religion from the public square but they aren’t just advocating that as something they wish for but instead they make the false claim that the constitution forbids religious displays and religion which just isn’t true. It is a myth and like most liberal myths it is empty and easily disproved. The sad thing is the so many Americans, especially the young, have been spoon fed these myths and parrot them as if they are fact.
And what about the “Mockumentary” that the lefties made about President Bush being assassinated.
Oh, that’s different!
Just how would you know?
If Wiley Drake and his followers are praying for the demise of an enemy, I wouldn’t want to be the enemy in question. The man feeds the poor, clothes the naked, and actually believes Christians should obey God’s word. The devil-brats at the LA Times should take a double-sip of their cappucino half-caf before taking this guy on.
Ah, thanks, It’s akin to smacking someone up along side the head with an ugly club.
Why would someone who believe God allowed Himself to be tortured to death for their sins then be crazy to believe the same God might call them up to say "Hello" occasionally?
believe=believes
Which is what caused all those pesky plagues in ancient Egypt when Phaero thought the same thing about Moses...
;-)

You must not have much Biblical faith....it was written largely by folks who had conversations with God and his lad.
