SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP) -- When he came to, the Marine's arm hung lamely. It was broken by ball bearings hurled so hard from a suicide bomb that they also became embedded in his gun. Yet Brendan Poelaert's thoughts quickly turned to his patrol dog.
The powerful Belgian Malinois named Flapoor had served him as partner and protector for the past four months in Iraq. Now, the dog staggered a few steps along the Ramadi street, then stared blankly. Blood poured from his chest.
"I didn't care about my injuries, my arm," his handler says. "I'm telling the medic, 'I got to get my dog to the vet!"'

WOOF! WOOF!
I suppose basic first aid would work on a dog, but beyond that I’d be stumped.
I bet these dogs have saved a lot of lives.
God Bless our troops and their dogs also.
Good story
I guess there are dogs around that are as tough as Marines.
I’m glad they allow only trained people to adopt them. A working dog is not going to be happy as a backyard, walk them twice a day, family dog. Wouldn’t want an attack dog around the kiddies either without a good handler as owner. That said, lots of ex-police K9 guys, lots of ex military k9 guys would love to have them I bet. When I talk to the k9 Vietnam guys they still talk about their dogs and what they did.
Man's Best Friend
Yeah, that image kind of got to Me too...
Brindle Dutch shepherd? Unusual markings.
