Romney Faces A Credibility Gap

(US News) Watching Iowa straw poll winner and would-be Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney squirm on
Fox News Sunday was a bit discomfiting as the former Massachusetts governor tried to explain away his now infamous 180-degree flip-flop on abortion rights to host Chris Wallace.
He essentially said (to paraphrase former Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry), "I was never really for it, but I pretended to be for it before I was against it" (meaning a woman's right to choose). Check out the
transcript of the show, and decide for yourself.
But dig a bit deeper, and there's an even more serious indictment of Romney's credibility floating out there in cyberspace. The
Salt Lake Tribune has evidence that Romney has produced a Gore-like gaffe by taking claim for the success for turning around the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics. Al Gore, you will recall, sort of claimed credit for inventing the Internet. But the turnaround credit for the Salt Lake games may in fact be due to those who laid the groundwork for financial success well before Romney stepped in as chief executive of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee...
Romney has since staked his presidential bid on "leadership" abilities proven in that
turnaround effort.
But the
Tribune reports that the former publisher of that paper, John W. "Jack" Gallivan, says Romney had little to do with erasing a $379 million operating deficit, or organizing the 23,000 volunteers for the event, or galvanizing the supposedly dispirited community, which Romney now claims credit for doing in fundraising letters. .... LOL, the article itself is a "source", regardless of the "source of the source"....the mantra of the Romney supporters is evident on every thread they are on...."THAT source is tainted".....unless it's on the "approved" positive for Mitt sites.
However, some of you expect others to accept as "gospel" certain unwitnessed, unproved, hearsay "visions" of 150 years ago, and the questionable documents that came from that "source".

So even though a candidate was for life they became netrual in the war of words. If they did not in those early days pars words have been the pro lifers they would have automatically lose, and the abortion right folks would have won those positions.
Should that had happen all of the decision made in that office would have belong to the extreme liberals.
The ends justify the means is a doctrine of leftists and liberals. Liberals love lying, cheating and deceptive politicians. Leftists and liberals admire such traits and view them as resume enhancements.
Conservatives, on the other hand, generally disapprove of lying, weaseling, hypocritical politicians wherever they find them. Your misuse of Jesus' instruction to his disciples to be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves as if He were instructing them on how to use lies and hypocrisy as tactics to gain political power is grotesque. I think you have Jesus mixed up with Saul Alinsky, or Joseph Smith, maybe. I don't recall Jesus ever being 'neutral in the war of words', and I don't recall Him ever exhibiting or praising hypocrisy and moral cowardice as you are with Mitt Rommey.
Cordially,

I asked you to point out the credible facts in this article, which of course you won’t do because you can’t do it.
CBS says it’s true then that is good enough for you.
The rest of your approved Mitt ramblings do not apply to me.

Who could defend this? Only someone intellectually dishonest with a lot of axe-grinding to do. The writing is lazy, sloppy, and contains only one quote from a guy with an axe to grind against Mitt. This guy has been running things in Salt Lake City, when oops, they get busted for bribery. Mitt comes in and saves the day. Hey, what about me? Sounds like jealousy to me. Greyfoxx, how’s that axe coming along? Sharp enough, yet?

Romney's personal life is not a pro-choice record, but is in fact very pro-life.Please spare us. That's like saying that if Romney was a POTUS candidate in the 1850s (from the South), that had he employed 5 black people instead of owning them, that his "personal life is not a pro-slavery record, but is very pro-slave." But if he employed 5 blacks instead of owning them, but never said a word against anyone else owning them, but in fact condoned his neighbors' ownership of black slaves, if you asked all the slaves on the plantations neighboring Romney's farm, "Did you know that Mister Romney is pro-slave?" that would be news to them.

Yes, on issues of the life of the unborn and embryonic humans, Mitt Romney is definitely a bigot. Well said, Resty!

WOW, Suandra you struck GOLD. This is an excellent article.
Mitt’s pro-life conversion could fit right in here! I suggest it be linked on the Mitt threads to give people pause for thought.

Don't post to me out of context. I never said I agreed with that stand on abortion, I stated just the opposite. Furthermore, I publicly and staunchly opposed it in my Liberal Arts classes in college (and since). My point was that as wrong as it may be, it's a common opinion.
If you can't post to me honestly, don't post to me at all.

His wife admitted writing out a check for an abortion organization but she tried to downplay it and act confused. She claims to not really remember ... she’s trying to pull a Hillary.
Anyone with half a brain KNOWS that to be governor of Mass. HAS TO APPEAL TO LIBERALS in a MAJOR WAY. Mitt will tell people what they want to hear - and MASS. is a VERY LIBERAL state so he HAD to appeal to the STATE of LIBERALS to win as governor. He’s also soft on homosexuality.
Mitt’s supporters are fooling themselves. Mitt is a lying scoundrel.

Romney counseled women in his church against abortion. He privately may have told others abortion was wrong. How would YOU know? Close but no cigar.
Personally, publicly and politically, Romney is now pro-life, and with his conversion, has fostered many discussions on abortion. I welome him to our side.
Romney's story of pro-life conversion would fit in well with the following five. I suggest you read it.
In order to be truly fair, you really should preface your public criticism of Mitt, with the warning that you are anti-mormon, for the lurkers.

Your comment is irrational and irrelevant to the discussion. We were discussing Romney's past position on abortion (that I clearly disagree with), not the rightness or wrongness of it.
My family and I were fighting abortion back in the late seventies, and early eighties, in college when there was no Internet or talk radio support. The issue is one of the factors that drew me into government and politics. My sibling established the first statewide pro-life group in our state, and our state university did a full page story on his pro-life activism which I wholeheartedly supported with some of my own aactivist involvement in the pro-life effort. So don't make remarks to me about abortion, sweetheart. Smart pro-lifers welcome him with open arms, as we have welcomed a slew of other people.

"Mitts supporters are fooling themselves." No one is "fooled" by Mitt. He has converted to the pro-life side publicly and completely and understood there would be NO turning back. Perhaps, the pro-choice positions of Hillary and Guiliani are more to our liking?
" Mitt is a lying scoundrel."
Many of the very people on this board who accuse Mitt of lying, are lying scoundrels themselves. When it comes to Mitt, there's a whole lot of projection.
